Is there anyone who still doesn't use a SSD? I've seen guys spend £800 just on a cpu for a faster system but have overlooked ssd's.

yup
still using a 750gig Samsung sata boot drive keep meaning to go for an ssd and the time is certainly right to make the move with the price/performance as it is.

really need to make the jump as the rest of my system is making it look bad. 2600k 16gig ram and an overclocked 6970

I'm still using a 500gb Barracuda 7200.12 as my boot drive paired up with my i5-2500k @ 4.4GHz at home!

I will be getting myself an SSD within the next couple of months, though. Have built a Mini-ITX based i3-2120 machine at work with a Samsung 830 SSD and it's quicker and more responsive than my home machine!

Nope don't see the point really I am happy wait 10 seconds longer to boot up or 10 seconds longer for a game to load.

People act like it's a good upgrade I just cant see how or why though.

Media PC has just the 2TB disk in it, as C64 says waiting 20-30 seconds isn't a problem in its application as a media player, gives you enough time to grab a drink before watching something :)

you wont know how you managed without one once you buy an ssd!!!!!!!!

i have a 2tb samsung hdd with windows on and it takes me 1-2minutes to reach desktop

also have windows on an ssd and takes me 15-20seconds to reach fully working/loaded desktop

games dont seem to load much quicker or maps but for the os an ssd is simply fantastic

at current ssd prices, getting one in your pc is a no brainer imo

Yup, massive waste of cash for me right now, unless i can fit the OS and all my games on it then theres no point really. My home server has an SSD so im aware of the snappyness of them but im waiting for the 500GB SSD's to become affordable so i can replace my 500GB HDD, at the rate prices are dropping i wont be waiting all that long it seems.

Possibly by the time haswell is ready 500GB will be affordable.

you only need 60gb or 128gb ssd for os,for storage you can use any big hdd, also ssd caching is a great feature if your mb supports it

Still not got an SSD, but now the prices are very tempting. Would probably want a 128gb model for the OS, music and a few games. As my car is not starting and the clutch pedal offers as much resistance as audley Harrison I better keep some money aside for that first :-(

An SSD is next on my list of things to buy! In a few weeks I'll probably get myself the Sammy 830 or the Vertex 4 - I don't quite know yet !

Still using a 500GB drive in my laptop and probably won't switch to an SSD any time soon. Doesn't bother me that windows takes almost 1 minute to load and I don't game, pretty much only used for browsing the internet and MS Office.

I don't have an SSD. PC gets turned on when I walk in from work and boots up whilst I'm changing/making a drink. And the faster load times don't worry me too much either.

I currently have a 240GB Agility 3 as my boot drive and it does really well in all the benchmarks/etc but in all honesty I got it because it was silent not because it allegedly crushed all mechanical drives in benchmarking. I had previously owned a number of SSD's last using a Vertex 2E 60GB as a boot drives but I replaced it with a WD Velociraptor 600GB I got from OCUK dirt cheap as a B grade.

Compared to the raptor the Agility 3 is, well silent hence my purchase as im using a silent system, but as far as performance goes it boots up in a fraction of the time but that's the only noticeable difference (not that I notice it as I don't sit there during boot and stare at the screen). Files open instantly, programs open instantly but they did that with the raptor, a benchmark will prob find a massive gap but I am a human I don't work in ms. The one thing I will say is Diablo 3 loads/runs a lot smoother but that is mostly due to bad design (everything is loaded on the fly).

Exactly this, i dont get the facination with them? now the prices are dropping it's starting to be maybe worth buying one just as a gadget which you dont need, but if you cant wait an extra 10 seconds for a pc to boot there something wrong with you.

i was exactly like you folks,i just didnt see the point in owning an ssd,the price for the tiny bit of space wasnt worth it,HOW WRONG I WAS,to get the best use you have to pair it up with a big hdd then it makes sense, not only boot times improve but everything is faster, surfing the web refreshing webpages is just instant

its worth getting one if you ask me

I'm holding out the end of the month when I'm hoping to pick up a samsung 830 256gb kit for under £140, I'm just worried that the prices will drop again :D

I did hear that prices will rise in the near future, is there anything in that?

On the contrary I don't have any hdds in my desktop.

I had a hdd in my laptop but I'll be replacing that soon with a small ssd as I knocked the damn thing off the desk onto my woodeny floor the other day and don't trust the hdd anymore :(
