Anyone old enough to remember Monkey Magic?

There used to be this Chinese show called monkey magic, where the reluctant hero used to travel with a monk who used to keep him on the right path and he used to ride round on a cloud helping the unfortunate. I used to remember it fondly when I was a kid, and now they have rebooted it on Netflix, really hoping it isn’t terrible but probably is Monkey Tragic.

I like Monkey and have seen the new films but this looks like little or no improvement on the series? A bit like a cheap version of the Shannara Chronicles. I'll give it a try just in case I'm wrong.

Ahh, Monkey, I remember it well. Was before my time, but enjoyed it loads anyway.

Japanese series, dubbed in English (for us Westerners), about a Chinese tale that it actually sort of sticks fairly close to.

The trailer for the new one seems... "off". To me. Can't quite put my finger on it... But I'll reserve judgement until I've seen a few episodes for now.

Watching it now (the reboot).
It's.... bad but good. Certainly not taking itself very seriously. Some of the accents!

The source of all meme's back when I was 5 or 6 years old. Lot of that probably wouldn't fly nowadays though, like a lot of entertainment from that era. Remember sky1 re-airing it though circa 1992/3.

Loved Monkey when I was a nipper.
Strangely, just discovered this remake on Saturday and watched about 4 episodes.
Terrible but great at the same time

Total lack of Asian faces though which is a bit of a shame I think seeing as they are supposed to be in China.
