or had friends or family that have been fleeced? (just watching rogue traders now)
i've had my ebay account hacked but that's about it. sickening amount of rogue traders out there it would seem, quite a worry with olders relatives

Was a victim of credit card fraud. Luckily they only spent £80 (at an online casino) and the bank restored it.

Got stroked on ebay paid £250 for something and it never came, the guy whos account it was had been hacked and claimed to know nothing about it.
At the time ebay only covered £50 of it back.....

Heard not long after some kid was busted for doing ebay scams identical to the one that got me and had made £1000's even flying first class to america and top hotels, spend £16k on one spree!

Had one of my credit cards used, weird thing was I hadn't actually used the credit card for about 9 months, on or offline - it was only when they sent me a letter, some had used it to pay for random things online. Thankfully I was covered.

I got my paypal login phished years ago when I was young and naiive. Scammers tried to transfer £500 out of my bank account, luckily I was that young that I had a £150 transaction limit on my bank account and the transfer was denied!

Needless to say it was a learning experience.

Yes. Twas a professional con artist. He'd fooled quite a few people but luckily the police caught him in the end and he is in jail now :) Didn't get the money back though :(

I have clearly led a sheltered life and and was far too naive. Now it's the opposite and I am very very suspicious of everyone I meet!

I bought a laptop with 2 years' warranty in early September, received it early october, it went wrong after 14 hours of use... sent emails and made phone calls and got no reply or answer

the company went into liquidation...

I purchased a Nokia N95 from an eBay seller with 100% positive over 400 transactions, after a couple of days the auction was removed by eBay as the account had been hacked. I tried to email the address on the paypal receipt, but it was returned as undeliverable. Thankfully I had paid via paypal so I started the refund claim process, as the item was obviously never going to arrive. After a couple of weeks of waiting for the hacker to respond to the refund request, I received a tracking number for a package from China. About 6 weeks later, I got my money returned to me by paypal, so I took it as done and dusted, no harm done.

Then the package arrived. It was a pathetic excuse for an N95 clone, the case looked roughly the same but the slide went only one way, the camera was a 640 x 480 job, no GPS/3G and a garbage copy of the Nokia OS. I had no idea what to do with it, and had no way to contact the person who shipped it to me. I still have it, in fact. Very strange :)

Bought some RAM from the members market here. Paid the guy £40, he failed to send the goods. He got banned and I lost out.

A few years ago, my mum had several quotes to fit a new bathroom suite. The guy that did it must have been blind! She asked him to sort the problems, he came round, didn't do much so she took him to court and won.

I don't actually want to type this, but none of my immediate family including me have ever been caught, i'm touching wood as we speak (the real kind of wood, not what your thinking) personally i'm very careful, all letters get shredded if not being filed, have numorious non specific passwords for my main online stuff, the usual spyware gubbins and what not constantly updated and scanned PC etc etc
