Anyone own a Advent 7082 with the AMD Sempron 2800+ 1.60GHz Mobile cpu and 512mb DDR?

the inverter powers the backlight its independant of the data signal, the flat ribbon cables that carry the signal are damaged, which is why some part of the screen is ok, you could open the screen and try padding the area on the cable which would simulate constant pressure but its not gonna be a reliable fix,

You need to put a massive amount of pressure on to the screen to get rid of the lines, unless its the ribbon, and the lines disapear when preasure is added to the ribbon by pressing the screen on the ribbon, I dont know.

I have a £20 replacement keyboard comming and if it does the job (50 50% chance it will), then I will look into the screen. If the keyboard still wont work, its back on ebay with the darn thing.

in that case its definately a dead horse without spending more than its worth, you have to be very carefull with laptops on the bay, a lot plead ignorance and just say faulty but dont know what is wrong , easy fix etc when they have tried to mend it themselves and usually made it worse, bear in mind these laptops are over a year old and better spec ones can be had for 299 new.

the cmos will still need clearing using the jumper method described before you fit the keyboard also.

yeh, thats why im not spending anymore time on the laptop if the keyboard still dont work, cos altogether so far with buying it and the keyboard its costed me £127, and I hope to get my £104 back that I bought it for if the replacement keyboard still dont work.

But yeh I will clear the bios as you say, but I think its clear anyway cos it says:

CMOS Settings Wrong
CMOS Date/Time Not Set
Press F1 to run SETUP
press F2 to load default values and continue

regarding the keyboard, its possibly the controller thats buggered, which means a new mainboard as well as lcd, and a new keyboard wont fix it.

I would be surpised if its the keyboard controller thats buggered cos its only like 2years old if that, and theres no cracks on it or anything to make me think its been dropped.:confused:

Hope you get it working speedy, or atleast make your money back :)

sorry for off topic, but beermonster have your 7000 laptops involved any HP NX7000's by any chance?

if so I would love to talk to you about one I failed to repair if you wouldn't mind?

Do you have msn? (Email in trust)

Cheers,

G

Im not very confident about being able to fix it, basically its 50 50 if this new keyboard will work

If it dont work, I will stick it back on ebay and try to get my money back, then I will buy a new acer gemstone lappy.

Ive just tried the laptop again, and its got another line now, havent got the keyboard yet tho, I hope it will come tomorrow.

I guess the reason its got another line is cos ive been messing about with it. Beermonster could it be a loose connection by any chance, cos like I said if I put pressure and bend the screen the lines disappear?

yeah by putting pressure on it youve probably damaged the very fine flat cable that runs along the back of the lcd, no signal will pass to the transistors hence the solid lines, when you apply pressure it makes contact bringing the picture back, these can be repaired but usually they dont last long.

Ive taken the screen apart, do you mean the data cable that plugs into the lcd is damaged?, and yeah there wernt any loose connections,, but now the backlight isnt working now!!!!!!!What have I done to the backlight????. Beermonster could I chat to you on msn please???

on the lcd its self along the back top edge there is a green pcb that is linked to the panel via a flat ribbon cable, theres normally big DO NOT PRESS HERE in red written on it its probably under some white plastic

don't take this the wrong way but you havent listened to anything i've said, in the 2nd post i said the screen was faulty, 30 posts later and its in a worse state now than ever.
