Anyone own a e46 m3?

Why would you buy an M3 and then scrimp on the cheapest part of the servicing, you realise it's also a coolant and brake fluid change every two years right?[/QUOTE]

Cause I don't see the point in paying BMW twice the price of something I can do myself very easley. And as for being a tyre and exhaust fitter doesn't mean I can't run one. It's a family bussiness and I'm well looked after when it comes to wages. Sounds like you are trying to judge someone u don't even no

The problem is that more or less everyone that will want to buy it after you've had it will judge you on that fact as well.

I think people are just rightly or wrongly judging from your attitude, spelling and grammar that you may not be the type of person suited to running a car such as the M3.

This is what everyones thinking but won't really say it.

BMW classy, lol :D

Took the E46 to the garage for MOT today, as I arrived I saw a black E46 coupe in the doorway with the reg plate * 7HUG. It was lowered excessively on some fake BBS rims, shod with Fullrun tyres and one of them buckled. On closer inspection it was a 318, had the MIL light on and airbag light, and the paintwork had about the worst hologramming I've seen.
This is the dream for way too many people.

For quite along time the chav vehicle of choice round here was a mk4 golf. Without a doubt it is the e46 now, they are awful and everywhere.

Should mean I could get a set of adjustable rear camber arms for the rear of mine

I adjusted my camber arm the other day :p

Drifting destroys cars, fact.

Fair enough my spelling and grammar isn't good I know that lol. But I don't have a attitude problem I just don't think it's right someone behide a computer judging anyone without knowing them do you not agree? I'm not some Chav that goes out driving beyond his capabilities on the road that's not me. I no for a fact I could run a m3 but I don't know if it's worth all the money for me personally

Your first post asked about how much and how often to service. If this is not a problem for you as you have just said why ask.

To be honest whilst I'm probably with the general sentiment on this thread simply asking what the servicing regeime is and how much it costs doesn't mean its neccesarily a problem. Most people surely want to know what things cost before they decide to buy them whether they have 10p in all the world or a million in the bank.

I started the thread to get a bit of friendly advice about the m3 which you give me thank you. But people shouldn't be judging others from behide a computer and telling them what they can and cannot afford thats a bit of snobbery if you ask me. But thanks to anyone that has giving me any advice much appreciated

I haven't judged you. Youre a tyre fitter, you could own a chain of shops and make six figures a year for all I know. Makes no difference to me at all.

Your spelling and grammar are both poor and don't help how you come across. Fair enough, not everyone is destined to be a genius right?

My assumptions that you probably weren't prepared to maintain the car properly, were based on your posts. You said as much regarding the oil. Would you buy an M3 from someone who 'didn't see the point in taking it to BMW', for a couple of hundred quid and serviced it himself?

Didn't think so.

I would buy one that didn't have full BMW service history yes as long as it was serviced using BMW parts and receipt to prove it. Just cause it was serviced in BMW doesn't mean it was done by a top class mechanics. I know of a Audi and a skoda mechanics I wouldn't let near any of my cars lol.

I suppose reading this thread is actually quite interesting in regards of what servicing actually means to a potential buyer.

Im in the motor trade so picked up my E39 M5 as a bit of cheap fun and something to either use when i had to travel a long journey(200miles+) or to blast around track days and go the ring in.

ill do all my own servicing and replace whatever needs doing myself as for a 11yr old vehicle i feel its silly to pay BMW lots of money for something you can easily and cheaply do yourself.

Do i feel that it means the vehicle is going to be worth nothing, well not really as these are so cheap nowadays that if i spent £3000 on bmw servicing and parts(assuming through the years i own it) would i be able to put that amount on top of the value of the vehicle when i came to sell........i dont believe i can.

I suppose im in the same position as the OP really, I didnt lust and love an M Car before i bought this, just came across it in the trade and decided to try it out.

I wouldnt say its an amazing car, but its a nice car to drive and ill be able to fit a baby chair in the back come january etc.

maybe the OP is in the same position, by one cheap, look after it himself and enjoy it, I would treat is as any other car really, change the fluids every so often and dont abuse it when cold and im sure it will be good to you.

I think maybe because its an M Car it needs to be put on a pedestal and loved and cherished, but at the price they are now i dont think they warrant that, if it was a few years old maybe, but not a decade+

What you say is true about the mechanics. However with main dealers, the parts and their work is guaranteed. So you have some comeback if there is a problem.

If the owner has done aspects of the servicing himself, how can you tell he knows one end of a spanner from the other? How do you know he hasn't cut corners in maintenance elsewhere and isn't telling you?

At least if the car has a full BMW service history, you will have a reasonable standard of trust that they put the right oil in it and not some super cheap **** that was on sale at Halfords.

See my point?
