Anyone pay for gadget insurance?

Was talking in general about insurance - car insurance being one of the examples where it obviously makes sense.

The fact that it is also required is irrelevant to the point. I'm well aware that its required thanks...

Your post made it sound like car insurance is something you can choose to have or not have like medical insurance or building insurance.

I'm glad you're not one of the estimated 1.2 million drivers in the UK who consider insurance optional.

Insurance is defo a good idea. I made the mistake of taking O2's insurance on my Iphone 3gs a few years back, was £6 or £7 a month. I lost it at work on a delivery (steel stockholder) and drove off with it on the flatbed. My mistake yes, but when i tried to claim o2 told me the way i lost it invalidated the insurance. So there was about 5 months of my contract left and i was livid. No phone and no replacement. I was livid to say the least and not a thing I could do about it. Moral of the story, Get insurance but with those third party companies, not clowns like o2.

I've got mobile insurance with Natwest. Got a Select silver account which gives some travel insurance, mobile, some films off lovefilm and some songs from HMV for £8 a month.

I'm not sure about that particular one you have, but these paid for accounts are very rarely worth it in terms of the 'extras' that you get. You can pretty much always get a better deal elsewhere.

My girlfriend, who is broke, pays for one of them (apart £10 a month IIRC) and claims it is a good idea because she gets phone insurance and travel insurance. The fact is, her phone is worth less than £120 and goes on holiday once a year to cheap to insure countries. I really don't understand it and have been trying to get her to cancel for ages.

Could be worht it if she loses her phone many times a year :p

TBH, if you're careful and your phone is worth around £100 it really isn't worth insuring IMO.

PS - your sig needs fixing ;)

She doesn't though, and like The Halk says there's probably high excesses. I think that's why she didn't claim when her Blackberry broke last year. Bit of luck she'll see sense soon and cancel it so have a bit of free money.

What's wrong with it? Size wrong, or is it that the video in the link is no longer there? If it's the latter, I've fixed it. Check it out. :)

Video and Glaucus'

Halk - why would they be out of pocket?

£120 per annum for the insurance
£100 excess

If you lose your iPhone that's still roughly £300 saved (depending on model)

I'm assuming most people don't have an iPhone. £146 is the payment for one year plus excess, that's more than most midrange phones cost 1 year later.
