Anyone playing Company of Heroes?

If anyone has any tips on defending Hill 317 im open too suggestions, all going great untill the last 7 mins then 3 panzers show up and blow me to hell. :mad:

I found the last bit in that mission tricky and I was literally fighting in the trenches at one point before I pushed them back. The key is to have AT guns covering every approach to the hill support by MG's and one AT gun that you move arround when you spot a target of opportunity. I did not bother holding the lower parts of the hill as they get over run too easily I concentrated all my defences on the top of the hill.

The Axis artillery is very annoying though and my 105mm is somewhat useful but the Germans tend to move too fast for you to use it unless you predict where they will attack but my 105mm guys kept getting killed so I sent up some armour from the town to try and relieve some of the pressure.

The enemy attacks in waves, just dig in and kill them using bunkers and AT guns and then in the short breaks spam out some more soldiers. The key is having 360 degree AT gun coverage so the Panzers can't come in the pwn your soldiers. Also watch for the snipers as they have a habit of sniping your AT gunners.
 
i used plenty of tank traps on the east paths up the hill so only bunkers where able to secure them against infantry. if you can reduce the paths armour can take and guard them only with bunkers you'll save on population to defend elsewhere..

Hi guys, I have spent hours on the skirmish now, and i can't beat the demo level on easy! :(

I really like the game but getting tired of loosing, lol! Can anyone offer some tips please, i'm a n00b to RTS.

Watched the playback... interesting. Seems to get a lot to terretory, block the bridge near the enemy base, and make lots of normal infantry basically and then it goes from there.

OK here goes... I WILL beat it! :p
 
Thats was awesome. Got my 1st win! I think I might buy this today, haven't had so much fun since red alert back in the day.

The end to my skirmish was awesome. 2 x Sherman tank rockets and a massive army on the last building. When it ended all the rockets were mid flight etc. :D
 
I Just completed this game and must say I felt a little dissapointed with the ending. I wont mention any spoilers for those yet to play it, but it seemed like a anti-climax at the end.
I was expecting a huge showdown, C&C style almost, where the last mission is always the biggest, with one big stand off.
Oh well, loved every minute of it though, hope they do a expansion or 3. Now to home my skirmish skills a little then get some online matches going :)
 
hi all,

Is there a mod to up the population limit(for skirmish maybe?), this game runs really well and i think it could cope with a few extra troops running around :)

(edit: i have still not been able to connect else i'd have been up for a game)

on the subject of the population cap.. the 'trainer' only removes the cap for the player, it maybe ok just for giggles (riflespam defence against 4 expert AI) but it shouldn't be used to play seriously because it'll spoil the gameplay.

haha, just had my first game online today - was a 2v2 and we managed to win! Had some very interesting skirmishes with my opponent trying to cross the bridge, but by God it was fun!

An anti-tank crew, a half damaged panzer, a squad of Cross Holder's and a single engineer against about 4 squads of rangers and two infantrys! It was actually a draw - both forces massacred each other, and then we finished each other off with artillery - all of my troops died, and he retreated!

Got Company of Heroes the other day and I'm sort of enjoying it, the problem is that it crashes all the time. During the game, and when exiting skirmishes, it crashes to desktop with a cohrelic.exe (i think) error. Already patched it to 1.2 from the official site but it still crashes all the time.
Got BFG 7800GS with 81.24 drivers installed.

Anyone got any ideas???

i upgraded my brothers pc today so i could play this (lucky sod, my pc is in my flat, and i'm at my parents hours for a few weeks)

turned off the sticky selection, after doing the first two levels, its a lot nicer (more familiar!) with it off

have to say, this game really is awesome

playing it on medium, i like the way the units can kind of take care of them selves once you give them an order -ie one squad doesn't get totally mullered if you're on the other side of the screen

is that warhammer game any good? i've always thought warhammer models were for ultra geeks?

Yes it good, just a futuristic COH with less attractive graphics. Three patches needed from out of the box, all about 30gig each.
