Anyone know how many people are still playing EQ2?

edit: oops, sorry for double post :(

Plenty on my server so far as I can see, Lucan D'lere for reference. Fun game :)

I'm looking forward to Pirates of the Burning Sea and Dark age of Conan, just hope they are good. :)

EQ2 clone? Ye gods I wouldn't call it that, I hated it and would call it more an EQ1 clone if anything, bad links by the way :(

As by EQ2 clone i ment in the looks, put them next to each other and you have basically the same game.

The links work fine, the topic on each link isnt about vanguard but the content of the blog is.

Yep. I bloody loved it, was subscribed for around 18 months (excluding the beta!) and i still keep getting urges to install it and play again!

Easier to pick up and play than any of the other MMORPG's I've played, you can quite easily load it up and jump on for an hour (which appeals to me, makes it more of a game unlike WoW which is a "life choice" when you load it up :p) ...doesn't take long to find a "team" and jump straight into a mission. :)

Ahhh, yes the overall looks is quite similar, although Vanguards character models are no where near EQ2's when it comes to animation.

Mmm, links do indeed work fine now :)

How much have you played it yourself, and when did you stop?

I'd be interested to know how EQ2 is now. I used to play but am tempted to come back as the PvP looks like its come a long way - anyone tried it? Is it balanced or just a gankfest?

Boring as sin

When were sins ever boring? :p

Anyhoo, it's not that bad. The real plus side is it is good fun to play. There are loads of class options, almost all of which are perfectly playable and lend a great deal of variation to how you might want to play from one day to the next.

The big 'however' is, the missions can be very samey. They have good story lines which, if you take time to keep up with what is going on, give a feeling of involvement, but the settings can get fairly repetitive: Go to generic office block A; clear. Go to generic office block B; clear, etc.

That said, the Task Force missions and badge hunting can easily provide a nice distraction from the mission grind. I have spent many nights just flying around solo, exploring stuff without ever having to fight a thing. They are are constantly evolving the storyline and (in many cases) completely re-designing the various zones which helps to add fresh content.

If there were a free trial going atm, I would recommend anyone try it, whether or not you want to pay for a month and see how it goes is up to you.

(I would though :) )

I tried EQ2. Feels nice to play but yeah seems a bit samey plus I feel like I'm just playing through a slightly different version of WoW.

I'm trying out DAOC. Really like the PvP in this, should be a model for other MMO's.

Besides Planetside, DAOC was the best massed warfare I've ever played online. It's just a pity the PvE side of things is so bland by today's standards.

A little off-topic, i read in a few forums about Star Wars Galaxies that a certain update changed/ruined the game. What exactly was in this update for so many people to start disliking the game?

I always wondered, i only played the 30day free you get with the game. But from what i understood you got a certain level in a skill to advance, but need several to get say bounty hunter. Like marksmanship and scouting, etc. What has been changed?

Definitely. I think the PvP may be enough to keep me there a while though.

I never played star wars but I've always wondered by sony didn't just revert back to the patch everyone was happy with? Just admit they made some big mistakes and give the players what they wanted.

Oh man, opening a big can of worms just asking that :)

Very short version - SWG was a skillbased sandbox type game, very shaky at launch but got very, very good as time went on.

Then they basically tore the guts out of the gameplay and rebuilt it from scratch to be simpler and basically more like the WoW class structure, but with all the good bits taken out. Becoming a jedi used to be insanely difficult, and really meant something. After the change you just picked 'Jedi' as a starting character class and away you went. Servers are crawling with hundreds of jedi now, and this is with the game set after the destruction of the first death star.

Lot of very, very bitter people in the aftermath.
