Anyone removed the heatsink from a 990 pro

Just picked up one of these on a really good deal, did anyone have success removing the heatsink?

Not practical to remove non-destructively, you need proper tools (heat gun, etc.) and some patience to do it - even then likely odds are it will be damaged.

EDIT: Since I posted last some people have posted a bit of how-to:

Realistically you probably won't be successful the first time.

It’s the 2tb version so I’m guessing it’s single sided which might make it a bit easier.

Looks fairly easy from the vid here although the guys camera work is terrible.

The way I'd approach it is with alcohol to soften up any adhesive. Remove any screws first, then very gently tease the heatsink apart with a stiff bit of thin plastic. If you come across any parts which seem even slightly stubborn, put a few drops of alcohol in where the adhesive is, wait a minute, then try again.

It'll probably be a slow process which may need you to keep applying alcohol as you go along. But I think it's a safer method than attacking the whole drive with a heat gun.

They must have changed it or some are different - the ones I've had my hands on have thermal pads which stick the 2 parts together and don't just pop off like that.
