Anyone running cs 1.6 and a widescreen monitor?

harris, out of interest, what clan do you play for?

/edit - just read a thread in the PC Games forum - "team intent"

yes team intent and using lower resolutions allows you to see more in game ;), why else do you think none of the professional players play above 800x600 at the most?

1.6 looks horrible on a big screen, well it looks horrible full stop.

I went from 19" to 24" WS, kept the same resolution at first but then changed to *720 as it was a joke trying to play 640*480 stretched on a 24".

whos this team intent then?

am i the only one that finds the content of this thread somewhat laughable ?

i'm not going to say anymore, as that would be verging on attacking the persons in question

but it seems to me, some people are taking what is essentially, playing a computer game, and maybe winning a bit of prize money doing it, far far too seriously.

Did you used to make skin packs?

Ive asked elsewhere to the answer to the lEEt RoxoRZZor SeKrAT reason why people would still use 800x600 and got a quick answer to my simple question.

Apparantly on the Hl1/cs1.6 engine at lower resolutions hit detection seems to work better. 640x480 is the best but most cant be doing with the large HUD so they settle on 800x600 and they use various FOV (field of views) to suit themselves.

I play a bit of social HL1DM so might try dropping it from 1280x1024.

urm Mr LOL thanks for your words of wisdom your comments are highly valuable  , if you are not a competitive gamer then you wouldn't understand or if you have played at a elite level you will understand that i don't want to lose viewing area all for something that looks better in movies, i use my comp predominantly for 1.6 and as this would be my first tft monitor i'm debating wether it's worth me getting a widescreen or if it will affect my 1.6 play too much! and so far everyone has been trying to help me and i thank their comments! and for those who say 1.6 looks horrible, i agree it does! but then since when was cs1.6 about looks?

yes

i was part of CS clan scene, and played in a load of UK CS leagues - BWCSL, Enemy Down Ladder, Clanbase Ladder, Jolt CSL plus a few others i cant remember.

we went to lan's, played in on-line leagues and the like. But never for one moment thought it was anything other than a bit of fun, and never had any desire to be an "elite" gamer. We played and beat a couple of clans who thought they were too. Including one who stipulated "no talking" as a clanmatch rule ffs.

some people take Competitive CS far too seriously. its just a computer game.

like i said, i refrained from posting anything specific so as not to troll

The CS scene is full of far too much BS, overplaying the importance of things like corded mice, CRT monitors, and having uber configs and running low resolutions to ensure you have the "competitive edge". You say everyone does it, doesnt mean any of it makes any difference though. Look at all the funny rituals footballers do before they play. Doesnt mean it effects their performance. One person does it, the others all then do the same, then everybody has to do it without ever questionning the reality of what difference it makes to your play.

CS is about your skillz, not about your rig, your monitor or your config. You can fiddle with them all you want. But at the end of the day, you've either got the skillz or you havent.

CS:S has been taken to a new competitive level in this country . http://www.team-******.com/

35k worth of prize money to the winning team ...

thats sort of a good reason to take it seriously

i agree with you to a certain degree, there is far too much emphesis placed on configs, resolutions, rates etc (i lose count of the times i've been on a server and someone has cried about my rates although they are the cpl default 25000 101 101! but with tft v crt i can notice the difference! i've mentioned previously that our team is sponsored by omegasektor in harrow there they use NEC 19GX2 monitors and i can tell the delay over a crt especially when quick scope shooting the awp! but they are certainly very close and the brightness is a lot better on tft's means you can see inside vents and tunnels a lot clearer :D

Thought so... I remember you from way back in the beginning :)

I went by a different name back then and many different ones since but I remember you sending me your skin pack and being very impressed with it. To this day its the only one I ever felt worthy of trying :)

Back before OCUK's old old clan etc.

Good times tbh :p

Cheers,

this is the bit i dont understand? does 1680x1050 not give you a greater area than 800x600? or even 1440x900 or whatever it is? i was always under the impression the greater the resolution the greater the viewable area...

1680*1050 is just mental for cs :D cant play it in that res but I'm still trying, maybe due to not liking my 22" belinea that much.... back on the crt for cs
