Just wondered if anyone has seen one of these projectors in action, they say its like looking out of a window and 0 pixels shown on screen.

From a distance my footage from my SD6000 camcorder gives a very window type view.

Wondering if its all new hype! for is it the real deal and worth the upgrade when projectors fall in to the £2000 range

At the hi-fi show Manchester i saw one of the jvc pj's that claimed to have some sort of pseudo 4k gimmick built in ..... i couldn't tell the differnce between that pj and other high end pj's at the show ..... when the hype becomes reality i'll look .... and when the price becomes reasonable i'll buy :)

Not convinced atm tho .... they also seem to be jumping the gun as far as content is concerned ..... time will tell i guess.

JVC's aren't 4k! It projects two 1080p images side by side to improve the pq.

Sim and Sony VPL-VW1000ES are true 4k.

The biggest issue is the lack of proper 4k materia to use it on. The above two projectors do upscale a 1080p image to 4k and by all accounts does improve the image mostly in terms of clarity. But you won't see a proper leap in terms of quality unless you have proper 4k material which is a very long way away.

I wonder whether 4k will happen quicker with streaming over the net than it will with the next generation of optical media needed to hold the content. I think there are already some 4k videos out there for download and YouTube may even have some content on too.

As moody said without high quality 4k footage (and theres not much of it) you won't get that proper effect of it (check out RED ONE IIRC theres some sample footage, etc. somewhre).

I've heard from others that upscaled blu rays look very good on 4k displays, even normal TVs. I'm sure at some point it'll filter down wether we want it or not, personally I'm looking forward to it! Not that I can afford to replace my current projector for a while lol

Saw one at Gadget show live! It was fantastic! Although i struggle to tell the difference between SD ad 1080P without my glasses which i didn't have at the time :P
But up close it was very very crisp and everyone else was blown away. To be honest it is how you would imagine it. There is no distinction between pixels from around 1m away.
Pretty sure it was the JVC one

Given that we can barely cope with streaming 720p of whatever Netflix and Lovefilm use, I'm not going to hold my breath for 4k streamed.

Just watched the Violin video on YouTube and damn even on 1080p the image quality difference is staggering. That rig must be crazy expensive :P

Aren't Cinema Digital Projectors 4K? If they are do they count?

Yeah our local cineword or showcase ( can't remember which) has them and has a trailer come up at the start of the film telling you you're watching it on a Sony digital projector which is 4K HD.

4K streaming wont take off at first. Sure all the blurays will jump to this resolution, just when you thought that was the last time you would buy the star wars box set! lol

A good 3 years off yet for people like me to able to buy one around £2000, maybe even longer.

True point though is our eyes only let us see from how good are sight is, I am going in for laser eye surgery soon so surely that will be like 10k viewing for me from now on :)

no chance at all - while a lot of people appear to have 50/100mb broadband its a tiny part of the population to make the investment from the corporations worth it imo

Im not sure the you tube content is actually 4k (there was a thread about it on avforums)

Interestingly the 4k videos on youtube stream perfectly (100mb) but use 25% CPU compared to 2-3% at 1080p, so there's definately some serious processing going on, unless the 1080p is hardware accelerated and the 4K isn't, for some reason.

I saw 4k demos from JVC & Sony at the Bristol sound & vision show. The Sony being actually 4k completely blew my socks off, the picture was absolutely stunning. The content we were shown was just upscaled Bluray but it was still a pretty dramatic and very noticeable difference, they did apparently have 4k footage from the new Spiderman film but wouldn't show it to non press :(.

the 4K films that the cinemas get just come on a hard drive in a sealed caddy.

This then just inserts into the projector.
