anyone slept in an airport terminal...

Yes, I have done this.

But now I tend to book into a Hotel. Did this recently after a 10 hour flight to Johannesburg before moving on - it made the rest of the trip much better.

Yes, Machester airport, Madrid airport and I think one in Turkey.

It is doable. I am used to wasting time and can do it for hours if I have a net connection. :D If it was in the UK I could survive on my iphone with internet and music. Anhywhere else and I would be inclined to get slightly tipsy to help make thinks more comfortable.

Yeah, nodded off in belfast int, belfast city, liverpool, luton, stanstead and gatwick i think.

Mostly just from absurdly early flights and the bar not being open coupled with either being hung over, massive delays or just nto reading propperly...

My tip, selotape an alarm clock to your face! You'll never miss it if you face is vibrating

12 hours in the bloody aiport in Dubai when they were re-modelling inside so NOTHING was open, I wanted to kill my self (as this was middle of the day as well and not night) :/

Yeah Nice airport, turned up about 2am. Got my Therm-a-rest and micro fleece sleeping bag liner and went to sleep. Woke up when the terminal got really busy, checked my bags and then checked in. Good times :)

Surely the plane operator has to pay for a hotel and meals if its due to delays? Unless of course you've intentionally booked a connecting flight with a massive gap.

Sleep? Bah, just stroll around the duty free shops, drink loads of coffee and play around with your laptop/phone. Worked for me :D

They don't all stay open at night.

I've slept in New York JFK, it was cold and very brightly lit everywhere, not a very comfortable night but worth saving the cost of an airport hotel (or outside accommodation + travel) there were a dozen or so other randoms trying to sleep in the same area so I don't think I missed any good seats or anything, there just weren't any :(

Did this in Manchester airport before, we found a nice corner with no people - and long benches, after 15 minutes of wondering. Camped down, only about an hour later for a group of older women to come and sit on the benches opposite us, ignoring the fact we were asleep, and to just make an annoying racket as only older women know how to make, quite why they chose our far off hidden corner to the rest of the pretty much empty airport I will never know.

did it once 8 years ago whilst a student (flights to Gibraltar from Heathrow left stupidly early back then) and I wouldn't do it again - in fact, for the way back (flight got in late) we decided to get a cheap hotel for £40.00 in london.

Only recently has it become EU law.

Of course, KLM found a way round it for me. Plane A was late due to "bad weather", which is out of their hands, of course, so they don't give you anything. I was put on a flight the following morning and left to my own devices. Fortunately in Amsterdam.....

The funny thing was Plane B left 25 minutes earlier than the time on our ticket - so we would've made it easily if they' closed boarding on time rather than early. They refused to carry on talking to me about this and threatened me with the police. *****.

I tried to once but the same security guard kept waking me up as you weren't allowed to sleep in the airport (stupid rule?), I think it was the Amsterdam airport. It was quite funny though, he kept walking around and finding me asleep in different spots around the airport

I've never slept in an airport (tried outside a train station once, but that's another story).

The main thing I was going to say though is that if your flight is not until the next morning, you aren't going to be allowed to check in and go through customs.... which is where most of the nice seats and areas you could probably sleep are.

Depending on what the aiport is like, you will just end up in the main lobby/checkin area which usually has less seating.

I make a point of doing this if i get a delay I also get my head down as much as possible on the flights. It annoys the hell out of the girlfriend but passes the time soo quickly :D
