anyone slept in an airport terminal...

Slept in Cairns and Singapore overnight, Carins was horrible nothing opening and very uncomforable benches. Singapore didn't have much to offer also pre-checkin but I found a nice little cafe with comfy seats, nearly missed my flight!! That was after hours upon end of walking around the massive terminals with my 20kg backpack. There was so many shops and things to see in the Singapore airport, it just never got quiet. Hoping on and off the trains from each terminal, even had some yank pay for all my grub and such because my card wouldn't work and he had a family to meet... :D

Tokyo airport

My mate and i couldn't afford another night in a hotel so we went on the last train to the airport. Sat down for about an hour when the cops picked us up and moved us to a little waiting area and took her names and passport nos. Wasnt so bad except that in our little bit they left the lights on, only our bit! and there were cig and drinks machines making a nasty racket.

Quite an accurate description
I was on transit from Singapore to Guam (next morning flight), and thought initially of staying within the transit area. But in Narita, they don't let you stay overnight in the transit area. So I had to go out via customs and immigration and wait in the main hall.
There are nice comfy chairs, but the security there don't let you just sleep anywhere. After midnight, they round you up and everyone has to sleep together at the groundfloor area in a corner with the security guy looking after you. That was fine, except that (1) they kept interrupting my sleep TWICE to ask for my name and particulars. (2) at around 1pm, they switched off the heater and lights, causing the temperature to drop (it was around zero outside), and I couldn't sleep.
Wouldn't mind sleeping there again, but next time, bring warm blankets!

Having done this a few times I would recommend a pillow (inflatable?) of some sort / rolled up fleecy or similar, plus a cover/blanket of some sort as airports can be draughty.

On the other hand, you could do what we did in Israel which was to open the 2 x 1 litre bottles of vodka, pass them round and then have races in the luggage trolleys once all the shops had closed. :D

Yes, several times. It's fine, although if you can't sleep it gets a little surreal!

Yes, this. I had a similar kind of flight to the OP but in Chicago/Atlanta (can't remember) and slept off and on in the terminal for around 8 hours. Was very surreal when you couldn't get to sleep, bit like 'I Am Legend' type thing when everybody left. You got the occasionnal airport person walking through and peering at you but other than that the place was deserted.

Had an 11hr layover in Seoul once. Wasn't a comfortable sleep, but can't really complain.

I've stayed at the Transit Hotel on my last couple of trips through Singapore. Much better than roughing it - and fairly priced too.

Spent a night in turin airport few years back.
Went to the Monaco gp, had cheap flights to and from turin, so drove to france, camped there, went to GP, drove back to airport on monday and bam, accident on highway and stuck, got to airport with about 10mins left before flight departure, handed in hire car keys, rushed to checkin, haggled our way through only for customs to refuse us and leave us stranded. No car to go anywhere, no money as we needed to buy new flight tickets, so we were literally stuck
But the best thing was, around 12pm, they closed the airport as there were no more flights till around 5:30am, and they locked us in after confirming our missed flight details and passport details. So we rolled up a few socks and played football for about 30mins, then whipped out the sleeping bags and had a bit of sleep before the whole place came to live again and we had to fork out £70 to get back to Stansted !

I spent 2 nights in stanstead airport either side of a trip to germany when I was in uni.

The night of the trip out I couldn't sleep, and sat waiting for the restaurant to open so I could get some breakfast. The place was packed with people sleeping and we couldn't get a seat to sleep on so we slept on the floor.

The night after we were waiting for a 6am transfer and I fell asleep almost straight away after sitting down, was shattered :D

Spent 24hrs, coming from Jersey I need to stop over the UK to get anywhere really and took and early flight in (cost) and the same time next day from gatwick.
Had my laptop with me, found a power socket, was near the comfy seats by starbucks and sat there for a while then some lass wanted help connecting her laptop up to the wifi then invited me to have drinking games with her buddies.

Oh yeah then passed out a few hours later, made it a bit easier to sleep :D
