Anyone still play Total Annihilation

Hehe it's still fun, we have a smaller multiplayer only version on memory sticks, and play it on the school computers, a much more constructive use of the school network. All my mates enjoyed turtling for some reason =(

Was that the huge mech modelled off the Krogoth? I remember something like that... had a big canon on each arm that shot blue bolts, and nuclear missile launchers on its back :cool:

It had so much health that even self destructing it didn't kill it – just brought it down to about 20% or something :D

no the one im thinking of was huge mech, had big twin barrelled cannons on each arm, some scatter cannon that just wiped out everything infront of it, D-gun missile on shoulder, absolutely shocking amount of health, good range as well
 
I seem to remember an Ice Cream Van..:confused:..which when selected had a instrumental tune played followed by 2x gun shots and a sqeaky voice shouting 'Shut the **** Up, Shut the **** Up' used to make me chuckle. :D
 
:confused: ^^^ <-- i never really played 3rd mods etc. I think just because most people prefered to play TA 3.1 CC + released units / with latest recorder.
 
I downloaded this on steam for £4 the other day includes Battle Tactics and Core Contingecy.

I bought 3 of the commander packs back in the day in my teens from scratching the cd's I played it so much.

Works like a charm on my 40" 4K screen and at 3840x2160

Just installed TA:Mutator and downloaded the Karganeth and Zarganeth units as well as 40x40 plus sized maps.....

Am I the only s@d barsteward 30 years old with a baby on its way playing this freaking awesome game with the best skirmish mode ever!!! Chris Taylor is a legend and I bow to his awesomeness for creating a game that works in full 4K on Windows 10 developed in 1996 (released 1997) when there was only Windows 95!

Just bought this on GOG for 99p as it seemed like a no brainer at that price. I lost my TA CDs years ago and this was cheap enough to justify.

Only problem is that it crashes on launch with a DirectX error:

"Environment Initialisation Failed: Check your DirectX setup"

which I'm a bit stuck with. I have an Nvidia 980Ti installed on Windows 10 with the latest updates installed. I've got no DirectX problems with other games. Guess it is time to do some Googling to try and find the solution. If anyone has any hints let me know :).

Edit: Fixed it. Required a rather long winded process of patching and modding the game. The original game still crashes but the modded version works to some degree although it is not perfect. Still, for 99p I can't really complain.

I had a go on this again last year.... one of the first ever PC games I ever played.

It's definitely still playable and very enjoyable, especially within some mods and new units etc.!
 
I need to try out escalation. I've only ever played original TA with some TA mutator mods. Trying to find some ultra massive maps. Got one 50x50 but might have a go at making some myself.
 
I'm on Windows 10 with the steam version....might be worth a try downloading that as it worked with no adjustment for me an at 4K. Used to crash like the plague in my teens when the unit count got too high.

I can remember people claiming they 'won' LAN games of TA because they produced so many PeeWees the game crashed :p
 
This brings back memories, played the **** out of this on the uni lan years ago! Might give it another look I didn't realise it was still going.
