As title i am deciding on later this year either upgrading a high end gaming pc or giving up pc gaming and going for a next gen console and an oled tv. I have to give up my office at somepoint and plug my pc into the longe tv, now that comes with a few minor challenges like keyboard and mouse, which im happy to try a lap keyboard out for. ive always been a pc gamer with favouring it over the consoles in the past. Infact i got rid of my ps4 pro for a switch because i had a crap tv that was too small for the distance i was sitting.
Im not a graphics whore but will playing on a next gen console with an lg oled 48" be a nice experience that will make me forget pc gaming?

Has anyone switched from a pc to a xbox series x/ps5, any regrets?

I've got the PC in sig and bought a Xbox Series X and PS5 at launch. The price of graphics cards and availability is putting me off staying with PC gaming, plus the new consoles ease of use and the power and speed they load games has really impressed me.

How close to a PC is it if you plug in a mouse and keyboard? Is that even a thing being able to plug them in direct or do you need a special hub or whatever?

I pretty much will switch, I'm so impressed with the Xbox experience that PC just annoys me now. The only problem I have is I still keep buying games for Steam when they're on sale, thinking I might get around to playing them in this lifetime. But it's not going to happen with Xbox Game Pass being so addictive. Rebuying a lot of my Steam library on Xbox will cost me an absolute fortune with Microsoft's store prices though so I'll find a way to keep my PC running for more of a retro gaming system. I predict I'll be using an Apple silicon Mac and Xbox Series X/PS5 within a couple of years.

Might be wrong but I think if they make the game with keyboard and mouse support you can just plug them in and they work.
My lad plays fortnite on the ps5 with keyboard and mouse just fine.

I have. I don't play games on my PC since I got the PS5. Well I sometimes play some C&C remastered or old games but I don't have any interest playing modern titles on it.
That said, I do intend to build another one later in the year but that's mainly for the xbox titles as I don't like the series x.

I don't quite fit the scenario in the question, in that I've not got a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S yet. Although back in 2018 I consciously moved to consoles, buying a Xbox One X and 'downsizing' and selling my gaming PC to move a gaming Laptop. I already had a PS4 Pro and have since picked up a Switch Lite. Whilst I've never been a single-format gamer I have 'mained' PC as a gaming platform for a while. But even back then in 2018 GPU's (and other parts) were getting increasingly expensive and I wanted to start the process of moving away from PC for gaming.

A lot of games are multi-platform, inc. indies. Prices aren't that different. And PS Now and Game Pass have really reduced what I feel I need to spend on games. As well as opening my eyes to games I wouldn't have played otherwise. I still use my PC for older games in my backlog and until recently was playing the last GaaS game I was playing (TESO). At some point I will pick up a PS5/Xbox Series X but I still feel like my current consoles have life left in them.

Unfortunately with the news about PS5 UK stock today being scalped it's just a horrible time buying any consumer electronics. So it helps not wanting to be on the cutting edge at the moment.

I think most people will when this generations really gets going, struggling to see the appeal of PC's nowadays Windows has become absolute bloatware and high end graphics card prices are outrageous.

I have for a few years anyway, no way am I paying that kinda money for gpus.
Got a ps5 at launch and been loving playing the ps4 games I've never got to play.
Doing tlou2 just now and if that's the graphics they can get out a ps4 pro I can't wait to see whats coming.

If I do decide to go console I'm going to go for an Xbox series x with the ultimate game pass and with the money saved from not buying the games every month I can put it towards a PS5 to play the exclusives, does that sound like a good plan?

Also I will get the lg 48" oled TV, anyone have one or an oled screen, will I like it to game on, what's the fuss about?

I bought a decent gaming laptop last August with a RXT 2080 Super Max P, this will be the last gaming laptop or Windows machine I buy, as i plan on moving to the Macbook Pro & the Xbox Series X for gaming within the next couple of years, I'm also getting a new 55" TV at some point this year with HDMI 2.1.

With what consoles such as the PS5 & Xbox Series X offer such as 4K, HDR & Ray Tracing all for less than £450, it doesn't seem worth it splashing 1000's out on a PC to have these same gaming features & to play the same games, only a very few PC exclusives left these day's, & the only one i can think of of top my head is World Of Warcraft.

Plus the price of graphics cards aren't helping neither, if you can actually get one that is.

For years people having been talking about death of PC gaming once the new generation of consoles come out, I actually think with the PS5 & Xbox Series X this could actually start to happen.

I all but gave up pc gaming with ps4 pro.

Used to change hardware A LOT, but still have the majority of my stuff from original ryzen launch, just with a 3900xt added last year. This will last me several more years.

I don't "fiddle" with PC at all now, after decades of tinkering and overclocking, etc. I jsut find it a bore now. And gaming on PC? Always spent more time fiddling than playing.

I will always have some form of gpu capable of some gaming, like 1070 now, in case I one day want to touch some of the dozens of games I bought but never played.

But for most part, pc gaming is dead to me. no regrets.

PS5 for new games, PC for old games, mods, free games, stand alones, etc.

That's my current stance. I came back to PC 4/5yrs ago as consoles felt like they were getting worse. Lack of audio support/settings was annoying, poo load times for everything and clunky UIs.

You just need to make sure you never buy on release with games, too many AAAs that flop these days.

PS has some nice exclusives that i want, allbeit available on PS4. I'm awaiting to see which is available first, affordable/ available GPUs or consoles. But i'll still keep my PC as don't use a new smart phone and do video editing sometimes. Plus mod stuff is always fun.

This won't be a popular opinion, but I've become disillusioned with PC gaming over the years.

I'm tired of competing storefronts, exorbitant hardware pricing, shoddy console ports and software troubleshooting. I'm weary of backwards compatibility that is reliant on community patches and workarounds. I'm fed up of tinkering and tweaking to achieve optimum performance.

I've been an avid PC gamer since the mid-nineties, built systems both personally and professionally, I'm wholly aware of the pros and cons. I just want affordability, longevity and simplicity. The Series X is the ideal solution for me, it's the most powerful console, has a sizeable library of classic games via backwards compatibility, and a blossoming future thanks to Game Pass and the recent Zenimax acquisition.

Thats what I'm fed up of in pc gaming, I'm spending more time tinkering than gaming.
The first few hours of a game I'm testing settings and watching fps counter rather than just enjoying the game.
Guess I used to like that but grown out of it with age.
The gpu prices are just the icing on the quiting cake.

I think one of the reasons pc gaming is less appealing is simple because there aren't many good pc games being made. This could be because the market is shrinking, or it could be why the market is shrinking, or a mix of both I don't know, but I don't know that I feel there hasn't been many games in years that I feel make me want to buy a pc to play them.

Games like skyrim for instance. When the next elder scrolls game comes out, is anyone is this thread even thinking to play it console? With the modding scene, elder scrolls needs to be played on pc.

Then there's RTS games. Where are they? They all but left and run away. Aoe 4 coming this year finally, but there's not been the games for a long time in this category that you'd find a friend who even knows about it. I'm sure some can recommend an rts to play that came out x months ago, but then plenty of people wouldn't have heard of it too.

If they sold xbox series x with a Windows lite mode I'm willing to bet you'd get many many people selling their pc and just getting this as they entire console/desktop machine.

Literally, each one of those reasons were the same as mine for swapping to console (though, I did the swap over to consoles during the end of the 360 era). Weirdly, I wasn't so bothered by FPS drops on the console, because I knew that everyone gets the same experience as me... and just got on and played gamesinstead of worrying about "my" platform's performance :p

Took some getting used to, and I suspect nowadays it's less confronting due to the smaller gap between the platforms than there were back then.

Yeah, that’s it. You know the console can’t do any better so you just ignore any blips and keep on playing.

Skyrim has mods on the Xbox.

Microsoft won’t add windows because they make a loss on each console sold. They don’t want people buying the console then buying games from third party stores.
