anyone switched from a gaming pc to a next gen console?

I've never been a fan of modding, plain ol vanilla for me. Exception is a couple of graphics mods for really old games but not interested in modding new ones.

Switched and haven't looked back. I've been a PC gamer all my life too.

Sitting back in my 'Dwell Ripple Rocker', with the TB 700 Gen 2s (that seem to give better audio than my PC setup), in front of a 55' 120Hz VRR enabled TV, along with game pass and features such as Quick Resume that the PC can't offer. Haven't had to fuss with settings or drivers. Finally having exceptionally fast internal storage helps too.

Plus the value the X delivers is unmatched on PC for minimal gain. I've actually enjoyed the older games on it more than the next/current gen.

How close to a PC is it if you plug in a mouse and keyboard? Is that even a thing being able to plug them in direct or do you need a special hub or whatever?
With the xbox series x you can plug and play if the game supports it. I got the Razer Turret, a wireless mechanical keyboard and mouse with a built in lapboard. I've been playing a lot of COD Cold War with it and it's as close as I care about. The other good stuff, 120hz, wide FOV etc are all supported in game so there's very little difference.

I left PC gaming about 6 years ago and I do miss the tinkering with the hardware side of things but not the stupid amount of cash I threw down the pan yearly.

I have upgraded my PC less over the past few years as the performance from consoles are decent.

I did go all out last year with RTX 3090, Ryzen 9 5950x and 32GB RAM but with the Series X and PS5 getting better performance games now. I be playing those more, unless its an FPS. I need keyboard and mouse :)

Skyrim has mods on the Xbox.

Microsoft won’t add windows because they make a loss on each console sold. They don’t want people buying the console then buying games from third party stores.
I'm aware of xbox allowing mods, but surely not all the mods available on pc? And also how demanding they could be? I've never looked into it just assumed

Also with windows on xbox. Although I agree, the xbox one for instance won't have been a loss leader for the last x amount of years. I'd have thought there was a point where they could add windows to it and still make money. As said windows lite. Not the full ability of windows but a version that allows a browser, emails, printing, word, excel etc I'm sure would be more than enough for so many users now.

Kids are growing up with less and less need for Windows, and xbox with Windows lite would be a good way to get some of them

I gave up on PC gaming about 6 years ago, due to increasing prices on components when mining started really booming. Why spend even 7-800 on a budget gaming rig when a console will perform as well for half of that? sure, the more you spend on a PC will massively outperform a console but its all relative. your £2000 PC is superior to a console that cost 1/5th of the price.

If I could find in stock I might! I have a ryzen 3600X + 1080ti rig which is still a great performer but don't have any intention to upgrade it with the crazy prices + unavailability of GPUs at the moment. I got my 1080ti for £650 when it came out - I thought that was expensive. But turned out to be a great purchase in the long run.
I play my Xbox One X more than PC now, despite the graphical superiority of the PC. Like what was said above, I tend to play a lot of the older game pass stuff. Really enjoying Dead SPace 3 - never finished it on PC.

So it helps not wanting to be on the cutting edge at the moment.

You just need to make sure you never buy on release with games, too many AAAs that flop these days.

PS has some nice exclusives that i want, allbeit available on PS4.

Totally agree to these points. I had a PS5 just before xmas but due to the crazy market price, someone I know offered me waaay over the odds for it so sold it. Picked up a PS4 pro on ebay for £170 and got TLOU remastered, RDR 2, GTA V and Spiderman for £35 all in. All excellent games, and I'll probably sign up to the PS equivalent of Game Pass if i need anything else. Did consider a Series S but I think an optical drive is a deal breaker for me, so took a downgrade as such to the PS, but i think i prefer the exclusives of PS anyways. I'll likely pick up another PS5 next year when there is more games and wider availability.

Hi folks,

Bit of the same question but wondering about game pass.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate - I’m aware of how to get the 3 years at a great price, and also aware that deal is ending soon.
I don’t have an Xbox, but did have a gamer tag from 360 days.
1) is it worth me getting game pass ultimate now, without having an Xbox? Can I stream all the same games on PC?
2) can I take up the deal on my old (unused for years) gamertag/account?
3) Do the game pass games disappear from the library after a certain period. I.e they’re removed from the service? I know PsNOW has games joining and leaving that particular service. Is it the same for Xbox or are the library of games there and accessible forever (licence restrictions not withstanding).

Thanks!

Been playing call of duty cold war with a keyboard and mouse on the ps4 Pro and it works fine, can't tell the difference

I'm seriously considering selling my pc because I'm sick of the increasing prices and availability and getting a console but I need to use it at a desk with a monitor, does anyone else have a console plugged into a monitor and game at a desk and can you use a keyboard and mouse these days?

What kind of monitor would I need to make the most of a console with the least issues? 4k 120hz? Because these are very expensive!

Thanks

In my man cave I have my PC in sig and Xbox Series X and PS5 connected to a BENQ EX2780Q monitor. Works great for me.

There are no 4k 120hz HDMI 2.1 monitors available at present, there are a few due the first half of this year and as you say will be expensive.

I've just realised the consoles can't run 4k120hz can they? So a 4k60hz is fine?

I thought consoles were meant to be easy :p

I would want a monitor that show off what the console can do and it's looking like only TVs can really do that but I've got a lot more reading to do

Gamersnexus did a nice video of what the PS5 was pushing out power wise right now and performance was quite low (in comparison to pc atm). But as developers utilise it more we may see 4k 120hz utilised in some form at some point.

Also depends if you want HDR and other features. I can't remember what was advertised.

Monitor prices are poo, and TVs with HDMI 2.1 are still kinda pricey. I think it depends on screen size you want ultimately. Then go from there.

The consoles can technically, depending on the game. Call of Duty Cold War has a 120hz mode, Gears of War 5, Dirt 5 etc. If you watch Digital Foundrys videos they show that the consoles use dynamic resolution scaling so not true 4k @ 120hz.

My monitor accepts 1440p @ 120hz from the Xbox Series X and 4k @ 60hz (Monitor down-scales to suit) from PS5.

I'm pretty confused about it all at the moment I've been a pc gamer since the 90s and consoles are completely alien to me so I've a lot of reading to do with the added complications of using it at a desk with a monitor and also a laptop for work

It would seem a bit daft to buy another 1440p monitor as I've just sold one so I would definitely want 4k but don't understand all the differences with HDMI at the moment but I'm getting the impression you need HDMI 2.1 to run 4k120hz and that its very expensive or doesn't even exist on monitors yet

Not something i've ever looked at, hdmi 2.1 on a monitor. I'm surprised there's not some of the big name manufacturers utilising it, given their TVs do.

I'm buying a new TV in the summer probably, but unsure if i care for over 60hz at 4k given the price differences. Plus proper HDR.

There are 4k 120hz+ monitors but they use display port for the bandwidth. True 4k gaming has been predominantly a PC luxury so it appears manufacturers are slow out the gate to cater for the console crowd. Even when looking at TVs for 4K @ 120hz you are limited to LG OLED, Sony XH9005 or LG Nanocell (Not sure what Samsung offer).
