anyone switched from a gaming pc to a next gen console?

I've said this in the past but one thing I noticed with colleagues at work is some of them who played solely console would come into work hyped about what part of the Witcher or Rdr2 they were playing, they would chat to each other about the stories and gameplay of games. Then myself and the pc gaming guys would talk more about hardware, fps and resolution, never being as content or excited about our games.

The PC master race always says how amazing pc gaming is but I actually don't think half the people on the GPU forum actually care much for gameplay or fun.

There are 4k 120hz+ monitors but they use display port for the bandwidth. True 4k gaming has been predominantly a PC luxury so it appears manufacturers are slow out the gate to cater for the console crowd. Even when looking at TVs for 4K @ 120hz you are limited to LG OLED, Sony XH9005 or LG Nanocell (Not sure what Samsung offer).

I was always under impression it was to do with the licencing, whether that's correct or half the story i've no idea. Had thought there were a few more models TV wise, but guess that's why the monitor choice is still poor there. But did read earlier there's some hdmi 2.1 monitors coming out about now. Phillips, Asus, and a few others. Dunno if they're any good, just skimmed through it. But some good screen sizes on offer at least.

Fair enough if that's your experience but I disagree.

I've pretty much always considered myself a pc gamer, even now I'd like to pretend that most of my gaming is pc based even though it isn't thanks to lockdown, but honestly the best games I've found to be on pc.

If I think to any of my favourite games, they are all at least available on pc if not exclusively, or at least we're originally pc only and eventually have made it to console.

Console games tend to be in the quick fix category, turn on, quick session online, done. Pc is load up, 8 hours later you should go to bed but can't as the game is too good.

Maybe thars just me though

You just have to visit either the GPU forum here or the PC master race Reddit and it sums up the sad state of the PC community currently. Obviously not every PC gamer is like this, but it does seem to have become more of a trend in recent years.

Thanks for all the reply's I think I'm going to go for a new TV and an Xbox series x later this year, then wait a few years to see what kind of new pc I could be getting to go with the new TV.

Anyway dilemma, due to the TV stand and my partner not wanting to get rid of it, I am limited to the size of my TV depending on the style of the actual TV legs stand. I could go either LG 48" oled or the Samsung qled q90 55" as the TV's stand is in the middle.
I am leaning towards the Samsung, it's a bigger screen, still a quality picture and according to rtings the best non oled TV for gaming.

An Oled for gaming would terrify me in terms of health bars and the like burning in.

If I had choice between 55 QLED Q90 or a LG 48" OLED I would take the Samsung.
I have a 55 Q80 and a 55 C9. Both are lovely. You will be pleased with either choice. Their are pros and cons of both panels. The brightness and vibrant colours from the Samsung, in particular for Nintendo games like Mario Odyssey are spectacular and I prefer the image on my Q80 for these types of games over the C9.

I think most people will when this generations really gets going, struggling to see the appeal of PC's nowadays Windows has become absolute bloatware and high end graphics card prices are outrageous.
Its always like this at launch as parity has been met between PC and consoles. Though its clear with the release of the 3000 series cards that Nvidia werent happy with that staying that way for too long.

4k on PC is nothing compared to 4k on consoles. So yes it might cost more but the substantial upticks are there just how PC gaming should be. Also to the posters complaining about fiddling .. Iv never once been in a position where iv spent more than 5 minutes changing game graphics.

Absolutely a place for consoles, and I would recommend people get one if they are able to. It is nice to play some of the exclusives and to just relax on the couch once in a while but a (good quality) PC replacement they are not.

I've been debating this issue myself over the past couple of months. For sure, next-gen console power vs the price of PC gaming means the consoles make more sense. I've been using both for a number of years - the top-spec last gen consoles and a decent mid range PC. I've suprised myself by deciding to go with PC gaming, at least for now. I like that I can choose to use the power for higher refresh at lower resolutions if I want and I don't find there are many new console games to get excited about right now. Mostly however I have got into sim racing and VR, so consoles can't offer me that currently. If it wasn't for the sim racing/VR, I'd get an X Box Series X.

Consoles have historically always been at a huge hardware disparity though which is not the case this generation for probably the first time ever, when the original Xbox launched with a 733mhz P3 PC's were already rocking 1.4ghz Athlon's and by the end of its cycle had reached over 3ghz and were 64bit, similar story with the GPU because back then progress was rampant. Even PS4 and Xbox One which are more recent consoles had CPU's that performed like something from the 2005-2010 era with PC, yet this generation have 3.5ghz Ryzen 2 which is very recent technology.

Whereas today PC has been largely stale since probably Sandy Bridge in 2011 and this generation all PC's really have going for them is moooarrrr cores, they've long since hit a wall in terms of clock speed and current memory bandwidth and PCI-E 3.0 bandwidth are not very good compared to console architecture. Even with GPU's all they're really doing is adding more cores, there is more progress happening but you have to pay through the nose for it.

PC's are progressing so slowly today and yet people are paying more than ever.

I disagree, the X has happily replaced my PC. What does the extra hardware and cost even gain you. Barely noticeable increased visuals in Cyberpunk? I just don’t get the point anymore.

It was different years ago when every upgrade gave a significant number of game related upgrades to match. I just don’t see that anymore and the likes of Nvidia are laughing all the way to the bank while the fan lot bicker incessantly. I’m just not interested in all that nonsense anymore.

I have taken a break from upgrading as the fun just isn't there anymore due to the greed from the likes of Nvidia and Co. I would usually upgrade every gen.

I bought a PS5 and have not regretted it. My money went to a new TV instead and I am now finding it difficult to play on a monitor due to size difference, 65 vs 27 inch.

Controller was hard to get used to though. I still don't get a break from PC related problems as there are 3 gaming PC's in the house and I have to maintain them.

I may return to upgrading again if the market goes back to normal but I am having a good time on console.

This is true, it does feel like we've reached a peak with the fidelity of games i guess the next few years will decide if there's a hard limitation (dev time/raw power) there.

Like ray tracing is ok i guess but I feel like devs should be looking more at systems/ai over graphics.

Agreed. I get the point of ray tracing in the long term, but not at the hardware, financial and development cost it brings. I wish they’d focus on more meaningful and noticeable gameplay features.

I’ve enjoyed just playing games on the X rather than constantly fiddling with graphical options, driver updates, hardware changes. It’s left a load more cash free in my pocket too. Probably just me getting older :p

PC exclusive titles are few and far between compared to yester year. Triple A is simply code for console ports. It's a smart move jumping to consoles, if triple A games are solely what you play.

Switch to console, I did and you won't regret it. More time playing and less time worrying about getting more FPS.

Isn't this subjective due to the platform you are jumping to? I have a PS5 for the living room and almost bought a XSX, but my PC is good enough to run all Game Pass Games with ease, therefore totally no point from my perspective and it must be the same for many others who have a half decent PC and a GP subscription.
