Hi,

Has anyone here taken a language at A-level? I have been wondering how the speaking tests are. Do the people on the recording speak slowly, like they do at GCSE level?

Thanks. :)

your question doesn't make sense.

for Speaking exam you are recorded, you'll have to do some sort of presentation and/or roleplays.

For listening exams you can listen to the tape as many times as you want, you can like rewind and FF it etc. It is examined with reading and writing as well so there is a overall time limit of 2 hours i think

Oh, my bad. I meant the listening examinations, sorry.

So, they allow you to listen to the recording as many times as you want? That's pretty cool.

The speakers are obviously native, but do they speak at a 'normal' tempo or do they speak a little more clearly/slower?

Yup, you get to bring your own walkman.

At A-Level the recordings are supposedly taken from actual news broadcasts and radio shows, so they're obviously not as slow as at gcse. In reality, they still sound like they have been recorded with an exam in mind so they are fairly easy to understand.

You can't use a dictionary, at least you couldn't in my AQA German.

And yeah, they do speak quickly. I found it really hard.
