I.e. double edged safety razors? Im sick of paying over the odds for mach 3 blades, the only ones that will cut my desparate dan like stubble, so I am going to invest in a DE safety razor, a badger hair shaving brush and some proper glycerine based shaving cream.

Just wondering if anyone else uses the above method or is everyone a gel/gillette or eleccy shaver? Any recommendations are appreciated.

Yep, I use Wilkinson sword double edged razors. Personally I think they are far superior to the gillette (sp) kind. They give a much closer shave and only cost about 2 quid for a pack of 10. Because the shave is so close, I only need to shave every two days. BUT, the buggers can give you a nasty cut, nothing life threatening, but enough to need a bit of bog roll. I only ever cut myself when I'm in a rush, you sort of have to learn to shave a bit differently. Basically take more care, then you will very rarely decapitate yourself. Get a nice foaming brush too and some shaving soap (comes in a little cup like thing). Will save you a fortune on gel too.

I shave with the rough edge of a falling meteor and use magma for shaving foam.

No really I use lavender oil, cheapo gel and a Mach 3 vibrorazor.

I tried using a proper razor but I didn't like the faint, weak feeling I got through blood loss.

I use Gillette CustomPlus Pivot Disposable Razors - because it has pivot head so it's easy to shave.

So cheap I usually buy 5 or 10 packs of them at tesco to last me a long time!

Bics for me.

You don't need three blades, swivel head or Aloe Vera lubrication, you need water, soap, a single blade razor and to learn to shave properly.

Ive taken of late to using a straight razor. It does take longer to shave but enjoy it more for some odd reason. Ive got a good badger hair brush and a bowl thing with shavinh soap in. The draw back to using a straight razor is the whole having to re sharpen the blade before and after each shave with a leather strop (or the back of a good quality wide leather belt!) but its not too bad.

I do have a slight problem, last time I used mine I didnt wipe allt he water off/re oil it and now have small specks of rust on it:( Does anyone know how to get rid of rust easyly?

I was about to come back with some witty response to you saying "I've got socks that have been shaving for longer than you" but you're older than me.

I'm therefore pointing at myself and laughing at my poor shaving skills.

Jezsoup, to remove rust from a blade you might try heating the blade in oil. Some of the water in the rust should boil off and free the rest of the rust particles from the blade. But becareful hot oil is hazardous stuff and the small boiling moments might make it spit.

Where did you pick the straight razor up from mate. I've been looking for one for ages, they are supposed to give a super smoothe shave. I just can't find them anywhere. I guess thats because the nutters started using them as weapons.

I use the Gillette G2 blades. Pretty good but I've always wondered about the old 'cut throat' type of razor. I bet they'd give an ace shave. Knowing me I'd probably end up slicing my head off or something tho!

Boots 3-bladed jobby here. Bics don't cut through my stubble as well meaning i have to go over again and get more shaving rash :(

Knowing my capabilities, with a cutthroat of other old fashioned razor i'd probably cut my ear off!

I've got permastubble like bloody Homer Simpson (thats not the only similarity either). As soon as I shave I have 5 o'clock shadow, I use a Mach3 turbo buzzy thing and go through a couple of blades a week :(. I've taken to using the normal Mach3 blades with the vibrostalk though as they are exactly the same and about 1/2 the price
