anyone using ps3 on a monitor via hdmi>dvi cable?

from my own investigations the problem the poster is encountering is the dvi-d input must be hdcp enabled, it won't work otherwise thats why I have my sights on the e228 from dell which is hdcp enabled.

Also the reason Sony don't support VGA as it cant handle HDCP

Even using a range of adapters and cables to take an HDMI connection to a DVI and then to VGA connection (similar adapter to a DVI-VGA graphics adapter) the connection would be possible but wont support HDCP so not worth the bother if it cant be disabled.

is there anyway to get PS3 playing Hi-Def on a PC monitor?

Id assume via a monitor with component inputs it could be possible, i take it 720p and 1080i works on the PS3 via component or is it restricted to stand def resolutions because of HDCP?

All this talk of a monitor needed HDCP. So if I got a HDMI to DVI cable and hooked mine upto my 20" Samsung 205BW (which has HDCP support) it would work just fine?

Use a component to vga converter.

Hard to believe that sonys wonder console has worse connectivity and resolution (over analogue) than the 360 that is half the price and has been out ages. Sony always find a way to ruin their products.

Yes a monitor with a hdcp enabled dvi-d port will display hd from ps3 using a hdmi to dvi-d connector, golden rule is a hdcp compliant display

So am I right in thinking that a PS3 can't be used on any monitor unless it is HDCP compliant?

Or can you use any monitor, but only those with HDCP will display in HD?

It's all a bit confusing tbh ;-/
