That new screeny is taken from inside Wind yeah ?

Lmao at that idoc.

thats what Uo was all about. Can you still do faction battles in UO minax True Brits? all that jazz. I enjoyed that for a while but was on 56k and so hard to compete for real.

faction battles still happen but on a very limited basis, not like the huge siege wars I used to fight in that lasted for days :)

I will always look back at UO with fond memories, the recent patches though have forced all the p16/or pre16 players away, artifacts gave those with little skill a chance to compete but turned competent players into gods, I honestly dont think I lost one fight when the FC cap was at 4 (5bugged)

ah well RIP UO :)

downloading from fileplanet...607mb! Would anyone be able to say meet me in game later on today to show me the ropes?

I never got into this, I think I am scared by paying monthly amounts just to keep playing a game...anyhow looks better than the kiddy game of WOW. :)

^^^ Whatever ;) .. its awesome :D

well imagine it now, then times the fun by 100, thats what it used to be like, if I still had my old computer I would post pictures of 50+ people faction or O/C raiding - I remember one sigil defense that lasted nearly two days at one point we were down to five defenders and our main faction tamer came online - gated in and 5 WW's just about saved us, true brits held at bay :D

plus pk's now have no risk, I remember losing my main pk to stat loss, when he finally died I lost conn - his head was worth 2.8mil which was an unheard of amount. He had full indestrucable, vanq gear. Those were the days , insurance makes fighting a lot less interesting now :(

The game developers first started showing their true intentions with the release of trammel (AKA Carebear land). They started taking all the Risk Vs Reward out by letting people go somewhere to make money and PVE without the risk of some guy coming up and ruining thier fun, but these PKs (although I hated them :D) added a huge amount to this game by making you REALLY value your life and the posessions you had worked hard for. Without bad guys UO became a stale boring monotonous pile of crap IMO. I quit a couple months after they first introduced Felluca/Trammel and am glad I got out before all the new crap came in like insurance.

What was great about it as well was that the bad guys weren't just greifers (although there were a lot), they were roleplaying a bad guy and playing within the rules of the game. We had evil murderers and thieves. I loved my thief :D. i remember how I stealthed into some PK's house in Britain and stole a 3 roomed house deed once lol, and me and a fellow thief used to love coming up with ways to rob people in the streets of Brittain - traps, cons. Most of the time we died, but there were a few times we struck lucky and robbed a few ship deeds and of course plenty of Reagents. It was great fun. But it wasn't griefing which is why I think trammel first came in - all the victims of murder and thieves didn't realise that it was just another proffession - one that added to the atmosphere and immersion of the game

Shame that people complained so much that the devs decided to put a carebear land in. I think the game lost a lot of character and became just another PVE game without any form of Risk vs Reward when they did that.

UO when it was all Felluca was pretty much the best MMO ever released, including the games we have now.

The good old days, I don't remember the 3D client being *that* bad, infact I used it exclusively when it came out, didn't bother with the old one anymore.

Hhhmm didn't even realise that UO was still going, assumed that they had stopped all development on it (after that thing about the ninjas), don't really see the point in a new client.

If only UO2 (the first time they attempted UO2, not that other one about the hack and slash thing) had made it out of the door :(.

Lots of elitist talk

There was nothing wrong with trammel, if a person didn't want to get ganked by 10 people they didn't have anythin to fear

if they wanted to they could go somewhere a bit more dangerous with better rewards, but risk a ganking

thieves are what ruined the game, they didn't add atmosphere they just made all of your hard work useless when some ***** stole it all

mate of mine stole the event weapon "subdue" then sold it on ebay for £500

now that makes being a thief worthwhile

problem with thieves was the 30 second immunity on the item stolen, in my opinion it was the ridiculous ninja expansion pack that made it unbelivably useless, stealth archers were also extremely sad. I only ever played a tank mage (never DP) and messed around with a tamer.

truely loved UO, makes me want to logon and do a lvl 5 treasure map!

They should play a single player game rather than ruin what was a hard game to play successfully. They are probably playing Everquest 2 or WOW now anyway. As I said you don't have to like the neferious types (I hated PK's), but you must admit they added an extra dimension to the gameplay. Items had true value rather than just being there for looks, you felt a sense of achievment by rising in the word because there was always someone round the corner trying to kill you or rob from you. You had to play smart and be careful in the way you played, where you went, who you trusted. Some people just wanted to PVE with mates and get higher skills and items without any risks involved, which is fine but I reckon they probably got bored after they realised there's no real achievement without risks and moved onto another PVE game like EQ2 or WOW.

Lets not get all trammel and felluccary about this. We all know both have their followers. :p

If anyone does want help getting started im on Europa. My msn is in trust, give me a shout.

I'm not too keen on the making money from playing games thing, because at the end of the day its just a game, and you shouldn't be monetarily affected by what happens in a game IMO. Anyway I sold my account to my thief mate for about £200. I don't get how people are prepared to pay real money for things in a game.

crazy money for UO stuff back in the day

like I said sold my main account with a castle and two IBD'd arties (inq res and ornie) and got just over £1000, then sold off 250mil for £25 per 10 mil

was a great earner for me, but I regret selling it now was always fun to log back on and kill the brit gate nubs :)

Hmmm I may go back and give it a go again when the new client is out just to see how it plays. It's been a long time since i first started playing. The new expansions did spoil it a great deal unfortunatley. The only time I had really enjoyed it 'recently' was fighting against the Despise invasion of Britain. After that I lost interest but mostly due to the overwhelming amount of arties and silly changes that didn't add but rather took away from the game. There used to be a time when I remember most people in GM gear with one or two special items. Now it's commonplace to see a newb fully kitted out in special gear and gear seemed more important than skills... ah well. Still gameplay wise its one of the best MMORPGs. Maybe one day the Glorious Lady Iseult will return to Europa.... well you never know :)

trammel based?

still remember when they based one part of an invasion in fel, we killed the EM and loads of trammies didnt have insurance on and we looted tens of artifacts as well as one guy with 8 broken chairs on him

fun times :D

Concurrently in trammel and fellucca, a mass invasion of ophidians, although that part of the story is mostly over. There was a massive war across Skara Brae, Vesper and Papua and then onto the mainland, it was carnage, but amazing.

The storyline is continuing towards revealing more about the next steps of UO.

UO is a great game... I got it maybe 5 years ago for £6...played the 30 day trial, then moved onto a free shard (mpz or deus ovis etc)...but those were crap to be honest compared to OSI.

I was a PKer on deus ovis I think...good times, just staying hidden outside moongates, then when people came through you'd murder them and take everything. Funny thing is, I wasn't even that great a player, I just had good swordsmanship and max strength/dex...

PKers make the game great, you NEED bad guys... like that other poster was saying...makes you value your life/possessions
