Anyone with a broken greaphcs card? Try this.

Reflowing the solder does work but I think I'd be more inclined to do it with a heat gun than using the oven. At least then you have more control over it and aren't relying on the oven thermostat to stop your card from cooking.

No, that's a different trick wherein you put a dead hamster in the oven and it becomes delicious.

Just remember to add a little tabasco for taste.... :D

This trick sounds superb though, I dont have any dead cards handy to try but when I next get one (was about to write 'if' then...:p) i'll give it a try.

I tried this today, gas mark 6 10 minutes Geforce 7600GT AGP. Card now does not work at all, at least before it displayed a picture just didn't render games.

*Edit, forgot to plug the power cable into the card. IT WORKS AGAIN! woooot! thanks a lot OP you saved me over £50. If it plays up again it's going straight BACK in the oven haha.

I've seen hair dryer used for getting messed up image back to shape in laptop...
I guess temperature just wasn't enough to do it for good because that laptop kept needing re-heating.

Just a thought here people, didn't Nvidia have a problem with the way the GPU was connected to it's setting ?
Seems to Me it's a lot of Nvidia cards getting cooked in this thread, Maybe it would be worth just heating the GPU die and area with a Heat gun !

At least it would stop the risk of components dropping off from the bottom ;)

Just follow the guide to be honest in all honesty, I did leave my 8800GT in for longer than 6 minutes but I revived both of them and they were both upside down - not I did this as I really didnt want any solder or capacitor/chip touching any hot glass or metal, so the only way for me to get PCB only touching the sides was to have it upside down.

remember to season first :)

I was getting artifacts in my 8800gtx too, wish i saw this guide before i snapped it into 4 pieces :(

Sounds fishy and risky to me. Such components as SMD-based might be very sensitive to high temperature, especially ICs, transistors, resistors, capacitors etc. Overheating them is not advised. So you should do this only on your own risk and as the last resort! IMHO

All elctronics boards go through an oven at similar temperatures during manufacture.
