Anywhere doing proper pollen counts?

Ahh joy, Hayfever season is here again. However most sites (BBC and Zirtek) only give a rather useless "High, Medium, Low". And through most of June they stick it on "High" permanently.

Our local council used to take daily readings with a proper numerical count. But sadly they scrapped that.

So is there anywhere that still does proper pollen counts?

I get hayfever so badly, I normally don't care what the pollen count is - I just know I'm suffering!

Last year I tried eating local honey to build up my immunity. It didn't help at all, and I felt like an idiot for buying expensive honey and religiously eating it every day for three months...

This year I have been preparing with Beconase nasal spray, following advice from my GP. (I used to get itchy eyes, but these days it seems to affect my nose more)

I was looking for then a couple of weeks ago when I thought i was having a bout of hay fever, but didn't find any unfortunately.

The strange thing is, my hayfever normally kicks in around May but so far i have only had 1 or 2 days this month where i have had a blocked up nose and sneezing fits.

I've been having a bunged up nose on & off for most of May. I'm on the Zirtek tablets (which worked quite well last year), but the bunged up nose is still a problem.

I'm tempted to finally invest in an aircon unit, that way I can keep the windows shut in the flat without dying of heat exhaustion.

I find nasal sprays are much more effective than tablets and probably cheaper, nothing worse than a blocked up nasal passage imo, and Beconase works a treat.

Dont they damange the lining in your nose?

Im sure i heard that

Hayfever, the bane of my Summers!

Luckily though, well not lucky really as it's bloody agony, I also suffer from exzema and therefore get some really potent antihistamine's on prescription. Things that make over the counter stuff like Piriton look like smarties. :D

I get hayfever really bad too, I was on fexofenadine 180mg for a while which did nothing, but visited my GP who put me on steroids for a couple weeks to boost up my immunities. After taking the steroids I am back to taking the 180mg tablets and I am perfectly fine!!!

I've been fine til today.

I did open a new pack today of 30 instead of the usual 7 tablets jobby. Perhaps the 30 pack tablets are weaker to save money. :p

Might get a nasal spray see if that makes a difference.

Do you suffer from the dreaded 'dry mouth' with those? I have to take a bottle of water to bed with me because I can guarantee that I'll wake during the night with a mouth as dry as nun's crotch.

Nope, but I supplement caffiene and creatine ee, so I have to drink lots of water anyway.

I have got bad hayfever for the last 18 years or so. I got so desperate i snorted water through my nose once (not a good idea).

I always end up comming home from work and hiding under the bed clothes (which seems to work).

A strange thing is that last year i did not get hayfever at all, and during the early part of that year i was eating honey. It has to be LOCAL honey from a flower stall thing not stuff from your local Tesco supermarket.

Mine starts in June, right after my birthday, and i havnt been eating honey this year so this will be a good test to see if the honey actually worked.

Am I alone, or am I the only person that gets sent into mad sneezing fits/eye watering episodes from taking Beconase?

Zirtek seems to work to an extent but doesn't stop sneezing.

Yeah its one of the side effects of cetrizine tabs, I get it when I wake up... but after few glasses of water and good as tbh.

Today had it really bad only cos I cut the grass lol

May consider an air con unit but tbh I gotta have the window open otherwise ill just die and cant leave the air con on all night be too much hassle and pricey too/

ahh the bane of hayfever and u know someone out there has a cure but just wont give it, instead will give us 1% doses to make money!

I thought anti histomines are really good for hayfever and removes the symptons if you take one a day?

only had hayfever as a kid, but nothing serious,

whats this about the honey? how comes it has to be local?
