** AOC/PHILLIPS MADRID JOLLY REPORT AND 2019 MONITOR RANGE **

It's going to be nearer 2K

Mmm, at circa £2K it's going to be a VERY hard sell against the just announced Acer CG437K @ £1500! They've taken far too long getting this monitor to market, so much so that if your £2K price prediction is accurate, it's DOA before it's even released! And you can bet the Asus variant is going to be far more expensive than AOC's!

There is certainly a consumer who wants this monitor, but most are going to run a mile at that price tag.

Could be 2K EUR which helps a bit and take all these figures with a pinch of salt!

It’s still a fundamentally different screen to the 43” Acer. It is an official GSync model with a FALD backlight which the Acer is lacking. It’s also more suitable as an all purpose monitor if you want to do more than gaming, than a 43” model is, which is really more of a display for gaming and consoles overall. 43” is going to be too big for many (most?) people to use as a desktop monitor comfortably

True, but £2K is going to be out of most people's reach. Is FALD a seriously expensive factor in this? I know the tech is in quite a few TV's now, and at bigger sizes, but I don't know what the cost of implementation is. Also, on a 1000-nit screen which has no FALD (I'm assuming the Acer won't have that), has this been seen in practice to know how it compares to a 1000-nit screen with FALD?

I think the FALD + Gsync module is the reason the AG353UCG expensive, but it's still priced far too high in my opinion. I hope 2K is not the actual cost when it goes on sale, especially considering the Sony BRAVIA KD49XG900 is a 49" 4K 100hz panel with FALD for around £1400.

I also am confused why they even put a gsync module in there, Freesync 2 would have been fine with both nvidia and radeon gpu's.

I would guess it's because this monitor has been in development for literally YEARS, long before they would have known Nvidia were going to allow Freesync to be compatible with their GPUs. Perhaps by the time they DID know this, they already had the monitor engineered with the G-Sync v2 module, so reverting to Freesync would have seen all that effort go to waste. But this is of course pure speculation.

Could it be to reduce the input lag on what is a 200Hz panel? Not sure if there is much of a difference between FreeSync and G-Sync when it comes to it. More speculation!

I'm going to find the PM's details out and ask him directly. I got AOC/Phillips Vice President's business card in Madrid but not the European product manager!

I'll tap him up for details, contact the product manager and see if I can find anything more out!

Until the above happens, TFT Central was obviously paying more attention than me in the presentation...

I did have a good old play with the screen after the presentation and messed around with the settings, different NVIDIA settings and even TestUFO :) the product manager was also pretty open answering questions which was refreshing

Interesting, I really wish they omitted built-in speakers and rgb lighting; would have made it cheaper. Still the most important part of the article:

"If you increase the refresh rate above 144Hz you need to drop to 8-bit colour depth or 4:2:2 chroma sub-sampling."
"We found that the image looked clearer at a lower refresh rate like 144Hz, with a bit more blur added by the time you reach 200Hz"

@NikTheSHNIK Sorry to bother you again. Are you going to sell the Philips 326M6VJRMB?
I am seeing pop up on a few website but would rathwe buy it from you guys :).
Thanks a lot.

Wasn't planning on it. It's not really PC enough. Meant more for consoles gamers and so a bit out of our wheelhouse.

I can make enquires for a price if you want though and see what we can get for you.

Thanks for the fast response.
Do it only if its not too much of a bother :).
Maybe I am a bit of an oddball but to me this monitor is perfect for single player gaming.
Good panel, correct hdr implementation (if it has the same as the Philips 328P6VUBREB one).
And big enough so that I dont need a second monitor when working.
I know its not high refresh rate but at 4k and for the games I play I dont think it would matter much :).

Thanks a lot let me think about it I am very specific about screens and don't want to end up returning it when you did a special order for me because there are some dead pixel or some backlight bleed.

And you guys are amazing at talking to your customers I am very impressed :).

Hello @NikTheSHNIK ,
I hope you are well.
I think I am going to wait for reviews on the monitor before placing an order if thats ok with you as I don't want to have to return it if you just order one for me :).
Thanks again for everything :)
