I think mine is a bit short. With line of sight I get 280mb at 3 meters but at about 10 meters it's 11mb (and jumping between 5.5 - 22mb).

It the wifi card a PCI-E expansion card?

Hi Ads_Green,

You are correct. The WiFi adapters are PCI-E.

Thanks,

I've given up and use Ethernet cables now as its more consistent.
A bit frustrating as a 2008 cheap to shiva laptop can get nearly double throughput on wifi.
Is there anything can do? As its pci-e would it be possible to exchange the card?
I've already had one replacement x3 and I'd rather not have to do it again!
Thanks

Actually just seen them at around £20 - more than postage to here! I'll grab one and try it out.
I must be getting old - when did wifi cards get so cheap?!

I see the ac8260 is available in two form factors - M.2 2230 an M.2 1216. Which is the right one?
Thanks!

Hey!

They should be M.2 2230. Please let us know if there is anything we can assist you with.

Thanks,

Hey Atom80, Ryu_86 hope you are all well.

Regarding the Aorus X7 pro V5 (this one) what are the options for drive expansion as i see it comes with a 512GB Nvme drive and a 1TB hdd while i understand these could both be upgraded to different models higher capacity and the traditional form factor hdd could be swapped out for a ssd ect but are there any more locations on the motherboard for extra drives, more specificity another space for a second nvme drive to potentially raid 0 them. Thanks for your time.

EDIT : Just found the information on your website however it raised a couple more questions for me instead :D

Currently it shows memory as 8GB/16GB DDR4 2133 MHz SO-DIMM, 4 slots (Max 64GB). My question here is does it necessarily need to be 2133 or can it be upgraded to say 2400mhz

Also one bit of information i really am struggling to find is regarding the refresh rate on the laptops panel so that info would be great thanks.

Hey harry5522,

OK so you now know there is a total of 3 SSD bays, so 2 spare on this model for you to add additional storage when you feel the need :-)

Regarding memory, feedback from AORUS mothership is a follows;

We have tested the 2400MHz memory, but saw virtually no performance improvement, this is why we stick with 2133Mhz specification and wouldn't advise end user to "upgrade", because it wouldn't represent value.

With regards to the panel, the manufacturer specification is 60Hz on the screen installed, but we actually have tested it consistently at 72Hz :D

You can also output true 4K res on the HDMI 2.0 connection and achieve 60Hz refresh rate:

Hope that helps, any more questions please let us know.

Is the USB C port of the X3 V5 display enabled?
I'd really like to drive three screen but it's only native ports are the hdmi and mini display port.

Hi Ads_Green,

Short answer to your question unfortunately is no it is not enabled. The USB type C port on your AORUS does not have thunderbolt enabled.

The Alpine Ridge chipset, which supports thunderbolt, does not support the HDMI 2.0, which provides 4K @60 Hz Output. This was a feature we wanted to include in the AORUS Skylake models, so we chose to go with this solution that provided HDMI 2.0 support.

Hope this provided the information you need. Let us know if you need anything else!

Cheers,

Hi all - just a quick update from me,

I've been using the replacement Aorus X3 plus v5 now for around a month, during which time I've been travelling a lot and also connected to USB port replicator at home.

The replacement I got is amazing - no hint of any of the original problems I had so it looks like the original problems are now sorted. As I've used this laptop now for work and play I can confirm that it's amazing for both.

It's covert enough to be able to use in the office (eg, no flashing lights, loud fan (even when set to gaming/extreme) and blends in with the other laptops in the office (it's hard to fire up an Alienware laptop in a meeting room with a bunch of suits) :).

For travelling, it's slim, light and quiet - what more do you need?

As for play - again, amazing. Both when connected to an external monitor/mouse/keyboard and when used as a standard laptop. I've played Fallout 4, Batman Arkham Knight and COD III, plus some older games and have been able to put the graphics up much more than I thought.

So in short - really happy with this device and if you're like me, someone who travels a lot, does presentations and participates in meetings in a professional environment and need a device that can do everything, I reckon this is the laptop for you....

PS - I don't work for Aorus, just wanted to give some user feedback in case anyone else is looking at this laptop.

Ive lost count how many Nvidia driver updates there have been now and still you haven't updated your driver update software.....

Are you working with Nvidia to find out why there drivers dont work with your laptops as ive been advised this is why you have not updated your software to show the new drivers.

I paid over £2000 for a laptop with no support?

So Nvidia driver 361.91 has been out from 15/2/16 but doesnt show on the Aorus update utility. Any reason for this? Do you guys still have issues with Nvidia drivers?

Hey orangeman2003,

Good question. We test the NVidia drivers in house at HQ before updating the driver utility to see if we can find any bugs or problems to ensure there aren't any issues for our customers.

While the majority of the drivers that NVidia updates don't cause any problems, I can think of a few occasions where NVidia drivers have caused some strange issues because of SLI design, therefore we always tend to check them before they are "AORUS approved".

Thanks,

R~

I thought this the case as i was in contact a few times regarding Nvidia issues with drivers but this has still yet to be updated with the update driver utility so can you please let me know if there are issues with driver 361.91 dated 15th February? 7 days and still nothing....

Let me check with our R&D department and I'll get back to you asap!

Thanks!

Any news on this?

Many thanks

Hi Orangeman,

Sorry for the late reply.

According to R&D, they are still through a few compatibility issues with this specific driver. We'll update it as soon as possible.

Thanks for the patience!

Dear XXXX

The issue driver 361.43 published from NV is common version for all makers but have some issue with our stuff
And we info it to NV and then they released latest driver to solve it.
We recommend end-user update driver from Official driver of DriverUpdate app or AORUS Official website to ensure our stuff would be stable.
We did many pass experiments about it.

HI Orangeman,

This is being looked at by HQ, but from what we read today, it seems that there is delay on release of drivers from NVidia, but this doesn't seem to just apply to AORUS from what we can ascertain.

We will update further as soon as we get more details.

Hi there,

Sorry about the late reply, I've been discussing this with our software team. Allow me to summarize briefly how these updates work. NVidias releases two types of drivers. Drivers for end users on a fairly regular basis, and OEM drivers thst go straight to the device manufacturer (currently 359.33 for AORUS). The end user drivers are released much more frequently than OEM drivers.

For a reasons why, I honestly don't have an answer because they are NVidia releases, I would suspect however that it is because they are much more careful about OEM releases.

As far as our releases in our Update Utility goes, we try to fully test drivers to make sure there aren't any issues with them before releasing them for official use. In many cases if you're using an X3 or and X5S that has a single GPU you're generally safe to use whichever driver you'd like, however due to SLI support for certain titles this isn't possible for SLI models.

For example, XCOM2 did not have SLI support until NVidia released the driver for Street Fighter V, which included support for the game. So you're better off sticking with the driver that we've tested and approved if you're running SLI. However you're welcome to try new drivers NVidia releases to try and get better performance of course, we however are unable to test every individual end user driver unfortunately. You can also compare other companies that support SLI as they take a similar stance on this topic as well.

We'll continue to try and improve our processes to give you better support, and we appreciate the feedback that you've given us. I just wanted to explain the process a in detail.

Please let us know if you have any other questions and we'll try and address them.

Thank you for the support.

Hi, I am thinking of purchasing an Aorus laptop, specifically the X5 Pro V5-SL2, as detailed on this page www.aorus.com/Product/Features/X7 Pro v5 Where can I purchase this exact model? All the models that I have seen, have a combined frame buffer of 6gb, but this model has a combine frame buffer of 12gb.

If anyone could help with this query, I would be grateful. Thank you.

Hi magburner,

This is great timing, as we are just in the process of updating all re-seller web-sites....

The spec listed is currently not correct - ALL our AORUS X7 v5 models actually have 2 x 6GB GTX970m cards..... so a total of 12GB vRAM not the 6GB that has been listed.

Sorry for the confusion, but safe to say you can purchase with confidence and be assured that the X7 v5-CF1 / CF2 and CAMO edition all have the 12GB vRAM on board.

Aorus Support

Hello,
I purchased my Aorus x5 last year in August from OCUK. No doubt its a great laptop and it is serving me well, I must commend Aorus team for this great machine. Mainly I have been using it with external displays and I had never faced any issue.
I recently noticed that my x5 has a bad screen bleed issue along the bottom edge of the LCD. Also, the LCD seems to be separating from the frame on the left hand side. The laptop itself is in like new condition and has been used very carefully.
Can some one please advise what shall I do.There is absolutely no issue with the performance, its still working as it should. However the screen bleed and the LCD separation is bothering me.
Thanks a lot for the support.:)

Hi brendene,

Glad the machine has been serving you well. Not glad to hear that the screen is bothering you, as this obviously sounds like it needs attention from repair centre.

Please contact them directly and get the unit collected for repair. (assuming it isn't something that can be "clicked" back into position without causing damage.
