When people say 'new ipod' I take it you just mean ipod touch with a bigger capacity then?

It's just I'm about to buy an ipod touch and i don't want it to be overshadowed by a better spec one - is it likely to just be a storage size improvement? Or is there a real possibly it could be SSD?

Also, how long after these keynotes do the new gadgets hit our shores?
 
Ipods are usually instores pretty quick after, as they already have the manufacturing lines set up etc, way in advance.
 
I'm not so keen on the look of the new ipod nano, I prefer the little square one atm. But then again when the square one came out I said I didn't like it.. until I had a diddle in person. So who knows!

All I know is that I NEED a 16Gb / 32Gb nano. 8Gb isn't enough :(

Then maybe buy a higher end ipod with more storage? The general population don't have that much music (I know only a handful of people with more than 30/40GB on their ipods). Apple would be killing sales of classics and touch's if they increased the capacity too much on the nano, besides, it's an ipod for the gym, not for taking your whole music collection round on.
 
Gimme a 64Gb iPod Touch and I'm sold! If not I'm getting an iPod Classic at the air port when I fly on the 15th. One of the downsides of having your music library lossless, 32gb is barley a quarter of my music library that I've ripped so far :-(.
 
That's mad. Just mirror everything in a decent lossy format, use the checked/unchecked states to keep them separate, and take those on the move.

[Some future version of iTunes should make use of systems with a bunch of cores and transparently transcode lossless -> lossy files during the iPod sync process :)]

Websites are reporting a underwhelm Apple event! :(

Though I still believe MBP & MB are due for refreshes, some websites say it'll be more abour iPhone development and obviously iPod refreshes.

Oh well....

Talking crap as usual.

They say it'll be underwhelming and then cover their backsides by saying unless Steve Jobs pulls a rabbit out of his turtleneck.

Their main reason for thinking it will be underwhelming is because there's nothing in the production chain to suggest a new product but it doesn't stop products being announced.

Bit of a non-story, really.

It's an mp3 player. It doesn't need to exciting, just do it's job really well. Which it does.
 
Yeah, but that happens with every gadget, not just apple. Have you never read engadget.com?
 
So um,. there definitely will not be an update to the touch, bar the memory capacity?

Because I want to order a 32gb one tomorrow (that's enough for me), but don't want to find out there would be one with enhanced features apart from capacity on Tuesday !!!
 
The Touch updates aren't due until later in the year apparently but anyone answering 'definitely' one way or the other doesn't know.

If you can't wait then just order the 32gb, if you can, then I would suggest you wait just incase.
