Apple Event, San Francisco - Discussion Thread

So the massive up take of the MacBook on university campuses and the complete ground breaking overhaul of the personal computer (origional iMac) has nothing to do with Apples current record success?

Sure the iPod (and now iPhone) has really, really helpded Apple but they are not the be-all and end-all of Apple and Steve Jobs would do well to remember that (he probably has!)

No but without the ipod apple would never have hit the big time like it has in the last 2 years. It was their breakthrough product, something affordable and useful that introduced millions and millions to the Apple brand.
Without the ipod Apple wouldn't be close to where they are now.

Ipod was only released in 2001

Im talking short term, the mass shift that has happened in the last few years. For a starters there are 2 macs in my house now, there wasnt an Apple product to be seen 5 years ago.

Not many, sure, but it's happening slowly. I think the mac swtiching is word of mouth more than anything. I was converted by a friend and I, in turn, have managed to convert three people in my 18 months of owning a mac and I've even convinved my dad (a loooong time business windows user) that his next desktop will be a mac.

I switched a while back now (last October) from pc, i don't have a iPod but i have a iPhone. Glad i switched too.
I've personally noted a few others on these forums buying iMac's & plenty of people in my company have just bought iMac's/MacBooks.

I'd still like to see a mac midi i.e. a PC (...pls don't stone me...) style box (of course styled like a mini mac pro) bigger than a mac mini (so you can put in a VGA card and C2D chip + ram of your choice...and use your existing monitor.

Not sure if that would fit nicely with the iMac range of course...

Or alternatively.....OSX software that you can install on PC hardware (although I would still like a midi sized Mac pro-esque box)!!!!!

I do like OSX but dang it their hardware is pricey (and I prefer not to hack).

EDIT: Do I think any of that will happen....errr...no

aagh too many cmd R presses, i'm refreshing this page, engaget and apple store.... i'm determined to download itunes 8 as soon as i can
