Hey guys.

Just wanted everyone's opinions really on the Apple specialists and the jobs within the Apple store?

They want sales folk, not tech staff. That's always been my opinion of staff in Apple stores, there are some genuine enthusiasts working there and you'll get good tech advice from them, but they are in the minority. I repaired Macs for almost 10 years, it's not great but it's still far, far better than the purple place!

Search the forums other people have asked for advice about jobs as an Apple specialist, in short they take anyone off the street and the names slightly misleading.

Someone with retail experience but limited intricate product knowledge is more likely to sell stuff than someone who has an in-depth tech knowledge but doesn't know how to sell to a consumer.

That's the theory anyway.

At the end of the day Apple generally sell to people who don't give a damn about the FSB speed, or that it is dual channel memory :)
I've worked at a store for 4 years and love it, never met so many genuinely nice people. Most of my friends there are avid PC gamers :)

I applied for a job at my local store, and got invited to a seminar (All very nice) and very interesting. I was lucky to get spotted and invited back for a second interview

Spotted? Is it a talent contest or something?

Hey guys.

Just wanted everyone's opinions really on the Apple specialists within the Apple store?

I applied for a job at my local store, and got invited to a seminar (All very nice) and very interesting. I was lucky to get spotted and invited back for a second interview, I do not have any retail experience but some IT and Networking work experience. I am 18 also.

I was told that having no retail experience was not necessary, but to have the will and passion to work for Apple. Something I felt proud and happy to work for! Anyways I didn't get the job. Since then, I emailed the manager and feedback I got was I didn't have any retail experience. Right..

Since then, when I have had problems or casually overheard someone trying to explain a problem to an Apple specialist in store and they do not know the answer, If I know the answer I will help them out.

It makes me think, and I may be wrong. But why is Apple employing retail sheep and not people with knowledge of the OS/hardware itself. One specialist didn't even know what the logic board was.

Apologies for my rant. But hope someone understands.

Your rant is my rant also.

I keep updating my info on their site to no avail, I just don't know what they look for in a persons profile. I passed an exam with the title Apple Certified Support Professional but that hasn't had any sort of response back. That was in 2008.

Now I'm going for another 2 exams, only for my benefit but I'm gonna be ****** if after those two (should I pass) I don't get even an invite!

The time I've spent mooching around my nearby stores I cannot fathom how some, and only some, got any retail job at all never mind within Apple. Obviously there are some guys/girls who are talented (in their own way :p ) but christ some others belong in Aldi.

:/

Is a Specialist the generic retail monkeys on the floor, or the Genius' at the Genius Bar?

If the former, then the ones in my local store are the same. Though, to be fair to them, they're just salesmen so technical knowledge isn't really needed... though they should know about the products they're selling!

If the latter, then WTF. They're meant to be genius!
