*** Apple Media Event - 20th Oct 2010 - Official Thread ***

This is only the very initial preview. They did something very similar with Leopard. When they came round to finally announcing it / releasing it there were lots of new stuff they hadn't showen at the preview event.

Leopard and Snow Leopard have been developer builds more than anything else - they're building towards something much bigger. I was hoping Lion was going to be it but it looks like another developer build - with my fear of it going down the route of iOS being realised.

I was hoping we'd see more of OSX Simba, but I guess with a launch date of mid 2011 they have a ton of work to do anyway. We'll probably get another, better sneak peek at the next event.

They're not going to reveal all the big features this far away from launch. Otherwise they'd have nothing to say in Summer 2011 when they try to build up the hype. This was just a sneak peak if anything.

iWork hasn't been updated since the guys were probably busy doing the iPad apps.

iLife '11 for £45 is really good. Might be even better if you can get the Apps individually through the Mac App Store for less depending what you want.

I don't think you can really judge Lion. Most of what we've seen is being brought to Snow Leopard so obviously there has to be far more coming later on.

The MacBook Air is beautiful. But at £849 is just shocking :(

Pictures of the 11 inch Air here: http://www.engadget.com/photos/macbook-air-11-6-inch/

Looks like Magsafe+USB+Headphones on the left and USB+Displayport (mini?) on the right.

Also: The "better" battery tests they have seem a but misleading, especially if their "old" machines are still measured by the old test method. I think MBPs are advertised as 7 hours and now the Air is measured at 7 hours for "wireless web". I suspect the old MBPs would be much lower using the new measurements.

Also: I didn't see any vents, but I did see a CPU fan in the video, how does the hot air get out? I have never used a Mac that doesn't generate Fan noise/heat after a load of Youtube'ing.

ok, basically £849 for a netbook but with Core2duo, solid state, solid unibody...

I dont need one, but why do i want one? Good thing it didnt include a sim slot (as he mentioned what if the MBA meet the iPad), then i would probably have got one.

What was the max CPU and RAM and HDD the 11" can have?

And any word on UK full prices, and UK HE prices?

Not that I'm thinking of picking one up tomorrow...

Probably same as $999 MBP price, so £850 ?

It won't be any faster in terms of pure processing speed than my MPB, but hell it will boot quicker !

HE Prices on the new MBA:
