I'd have the app and a browser open on a desktop/laptop just to be safe. They always seem to go up at different times

56mm isn't really telephoto. It's got wide and standard lenses.

I found last year that the app worked better for me.
I've pre-ordered using the Apple app a couple of times in the past and I've always had a smooth experience

Not 100% but in the U.S you sign up for 24 month contract, you choose your carrier at the start. You pay a set amount each month. At 12 months you can upgrade to the newest handset and choose a different carrier if you wish.
Basically, rather than have a 2 year subsidised contract with a carrier, you have a 2 year subsidised contract with Apple (the credit company they choose to deal with).
