Apple reported yet another record breaking quarter on Monday, and the growth leading up to those figures was from increases in the United States and internationally, too. Apple reported US$4.34 billion in profit on $20.3 billion in revenue for its fourth fiscal quarter.

Revenue for the quarter was up 67 percent year-over-year, and earnings jumped 73 percent compared to the same quarter last year. The company sold a record number 3.89 million Macs, 14.1 million iPhones, and 4.19 million iPads during the quarter.

Overall, Mac sales were up some 27 percent year-over-year, and iPhone sales jumped 91 percent.

Say what you want about Apple but dam they sure know how to make money that takes this year total profit to $14Billion. I see them becoming the most profitable company in the next few years.

what like microsofts domination of the OS market ... oh wait a minute.

Do you honestly think that basing all their growth on the iphone/ipad is a sustainable business model? It won't last forever. I still remember when the Nokia 3210 was all the rage. Times change, the bubble will burst.

The hipsters will eventually find a new fetish.

Yes, I have a mac. Would I buy one again? No, they're money grabbing gits.

"Would you like to install some OS upgrades? Certainly, that'll be £500."

"Would you like a piece of cable? Sure, that'll be £50"

Simple formula really:

Build up an army of mindless zombies who buy anything you sell
Multiply the value of the product by 2 to work out the retail value
Watch as the mindless zombies do your advertising for you and push you onto more and more profits

Eventually something else will come along though, and we'll be hating on that company, and using apple as the example that Sony's Walkman is nowadays.

That's my problem with Apple, I'd love to own a Macbook due to it's design and quality etc (Wouldn't use Mac OS), but they just take the **** with their pricing and I couldn't justify paying them.

lol @ you comparing the Nokia 3210 to Apple's decade of creating consumer solutions that solved problems no one thought they had, and utter dominance of digital music.

I'm sorry what new ideas have apple come up with?

All the have done for all their products, is copy existing ideas, tart them up a bit and market the hell out of them.

What planet are you living on ?

The OS upgrade is £25

http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MAC_OS_X_SNGL

And even better value for money is the Family pack which includes 5 user licenses for £40

Tell me where i can get 5 legal copies of windows for £40...

If you choose to skip a generation, granted you cant use the upgrade (eg you cant go from Tiger to Snow Leopard) but still, the box set consisting of OSX, ilife 09 and iwork 09 is £132

You dont get iwork09 for free, and thats £71 on its own,and anyway, the comparable product from Microsoft is over £100, and thats without office !

and £50 cables?

minidisplayport to DVI to VGA

http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MB572Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=MTA4NDU0NjA

£21, bit on the expensive side granted, but not £50...

Stop exaggerating.

They make imacs .0002mm thinner every so often and act like its the second coming. With that much shaved off the imac it gives dust some more room to get behind it.

They may not be the first to come up with the ideas but they are the trend setters.

Agreed. Knock the price down 15-25% and maybe I'll be more interested.

Apple's biggest talent is implementing ideas properly

Case in point is the ipad.

Upon release, everybody scoffed. "We have tablet PCs already" and "what can this do that my laptop cant" and "what an old and pointless idea, this has been around for ages" etc..

Except of course, they had taken an idea that microsoft and intel had been trying for years to push unsucessfully. Remember Windows XP Tablet edition ?

And they refined it, they stripped it out and gave end users what they actually wanted. Now a whole wave of new devices in the same format is coming. The samsung Galaxy tab, the Blackberry playbook etc.

Its spawned an entire new platform, but by perfecting an idea that others couldnt get to work properly.

So allthough the idea isnt "new" they certainly implemented it better than everybody else. Same goes for the iphone. There have been smartphones before, but the iphone gave everybody new ideas and pushed the genre. Smartphones wouldnt be where they are now if it wasnt for the iphone imo.

And as an apple user i welcome the development. Competition for apple keeps pushing them to do new things, and it pushes the 3rd partys to make their stuff better than apples. its a constantly never ending cycle of improvement that benefits us - the end user.

Hows making something uselessly thinner setting any kind of trend? Its different going from something like crt to lcd, but apple bang on every bloody product launch about something being thinner. Who cares? Oooh the new ipod is thinner and we shaved a gramme of weight off it, think of the savings of wear and tear on your knees when you're out and about!11!eleventy
