Surely the only people worried about this are people with child abuse images on their phones?
I really have no issue with it at all.

The intentions are good..
Apple is all about privacy right now...
...it uses CSAM hashes.
....yet they don't.

Apple could do that today, they have the machine learning already.

You're assuming icloud is 100% invulnerable to attacks so that the only way an image could get there is if the user uploads it.Well no, not really
The person sending the image would have to actively search it out, and would be in a lot more trouble than the recipient.
That's a fair point and I have no objection to that (my point about vulnerabilities notwithstanding). They know the hashes of KNOWN, distributed child abuse images and are using AI to compare hashes of your own images against those.
I love how people here are missing the difference between an image and image hash.

Some people need to lay off the tinfoil.

If you're a paedo muppet then how likely would you be to upload those images? Surely you'd just store them offline somewhere though.

I imagine some would probably use the dark Web to keep things like that hidden. That's a fair point and I have no objection to that (my point about vulnerabilities notwithstanding).

The only difference is that the cloud is now involved.
I would expect they get sent them, or download them from somewhere, and store them on a USB stick or external hard drive. As long as they avoid Apple's icloud then they are "safe". They could even use a more secure encrypted cloud provider. And how did you get them offline?
Don't forget, deleted isn't deletes (in most cases)
