Apple TV 4

No HDCP2.2 though which means 4K Netflix won't work for a kickoff. Considering the Fire box has 4K capabilities, it's a surprising omission from this version of the ATV.

Mine's now arrived and I added my US one, then I was allowed to add my UK one and it looks like you can then switch between them (they're both stored on their now).

You've always had the ability to have multiple ID's on there, but the apps have always changed according to what region store you've got the ATV pointed to.

This will now eliminate having dud apps on your homescreen.

I am really impressed with it so far, definitely worth the upgrade. Thought Siri would be a bit of a gimmick but I've actually used it a few times now as it's far quicker than searching the store with the clunky on screen keyboard

Apps/temp download cache essentially, all content is streamed. At least that's it for the time being, who knows if things will change down the line.

So now there is the plex app, would there be much point me upgrading from my first gen chromecast ?

Seems like £100 for no real benefit ??

Depends if you want a more fluid user experience. The Chromecast I found quite slow and clunky, but did what it needed to do. The AppleTV offers so much more than simply casting stuff to a dongle.

yay :) then it took me an hour to try to remember how to upgrade my synology with the new plex server software too :D

Hah, fortunately mine runs on a Linux box, super simple to keep up to date.
Interface seems really nice on it, not had much of a dig around yet, so no idea if it has Siri integration. If not, I am sue it will soon, as Apple is releasing the Siri API at some point soon.

only ever used apple tv's or hdmi cables directly to computers. the amount of cursing i've heard from colleagues or my girlfriend about android devices has put me off for life!

I take it ITV player Ch4 player is on this? Got a Panasonic so called smart TV a few years old now and they took U-tube off it and all it has is a few pathetic weather apps and I-player that is now clunky on it. Should have bought a Samsung TV as they seem to have the smart bit done well. Keep waiting for we are stopping the Iplayer service from said date.

Can you watch like Twitch and stuff like on my i-phone?

my samsung had an update the day i plugged it it, and none since. this was about 4/5 years ago so they aren't much better at keeping themselves up to date.

Eventually i guess most 'players' will come to the apple tv 4. i guess they would just need to convert from ios to tvos?

Got mine yesterday and its a bit 'meh' at the moment as the only improvement is with Siri and the new controller, not worth £169. However, I hope that some better games and apps come out for it, ideally all the catch-up tv apps and things like World of Tanks, once this happens I think it will be an essential purchase.

BTW, I don't use Plex.
