Apple vs Samsung, court orders Samsung to show Apple 5 new phones

Cant say im surprised about the ban. As soon as Samsung said they were changing their design as a result of Apple launching the iPad2, the writing was on the wall. When it came out looking pretty much like the iPad2 Apple was always going to have a case. Samsung should have stuck to their original design. Only a matter of time before its also banned in other european countries too.

Expect this to be the case pretty much everywhere. Like it or not Apple (as the judge pointed out) do have a case.

/me dons the flame proof suit and scurries back out of the mobile forum.

Regarding processor development, Apple have been looking to drop Samsung long before these court cases started popping up. It seems finally TSMC are in a position to meet demand so production with Samsung will be slowly dropped i would imagine.

Its estimated to be a loss of upwards of $6billion a year for Samsung losing Apples business, nothing earth shattering for a company that size but painful enough that they would rather have their business then not.

Completely agree, only a matter of time before this ban is introduced to other european countries. Dont get me wrong I dont have any apple products so no fanboy but Samsung are partly to blame for this mess themselves.

It's more how they copied the 3GS than the tablets I think. Apple have a right to be annoyed about that, and now they are trying to take revenge on Samsung for it to some degree.

If you try and look at it from Apple's perspective (even though many of you won't want to :p), they've revived a fairly dead tablet market and it's taken the world by storm, and they don't want a repeat of what happened with the Galaxy S.

It is simply common sense that they are going to aggressively defend the iPad.

Also, think about it. If you were the in charge of a huge company and you had a chance to dent the sales of your rival, you'd probably take it. I know I would.

Of course, but would the judge have upheld this ban with Samsungs original design? I dont think so. They would have been fine imo with the original tab 10.1

This one?

So it looks, felt and handled like a cheaper inferior product.
So they decided to make it just like the iPad instead... sorry, i mean improve the quality.
At the last second..
But they didn't copy the iPad..

mmmmm

Or they could have just not copied the iPad design ?
Plenty of other tablets and smart phones out there not getting sued by Apple (well, not for their design anyway :p).

Samsung's biggest problem to defend is the thousands of internet comments when their products launched where everyone was saying "Looks and feels just like an iPhone / iPad .. but runs Android!"

i don't get it as the design from the front is nothing. it's simply a screen with a bit of plastic round the edge. nothing else to it. i could understand if say they'd gone with some fancy flashy unique case with lines all over it in funny directions that's been copied, but instead it's just 1 colour. like painting a wall plain white and then complaining the white is being copied.

i personally think apple think galaxy is biggest competitor (and so do i) so they've gone for them over anyone else as ones like asus aren't going to dent apples part of the tablet market but galaxy will.

Trouble with tablets, and phones to some extent, there is only so far you can go without making it look similar to another tablet. From the sounds of it Apple pretty much has everything regarding a tablets look and feel patented up.

You could say that the patenting process is to blame for this. Patents are awarded for things far too generic these days.

Again, i say - other companies have managed it.

That's not the case.
If it was they could get every smart phone and tablets banned.

Would be interested to see exactly what points the tab was banned for.

No idea regarding the tablet, but the SG II / SG its the look and feel/placement of various things which leads it to basically look completely like a 3gs copy, rather then something Apple's patented. i think.
