Apple vs Samsung, court orders Samsung to show Apple 5 new phones

Majority of Android tablets are rectangular with a black bezel, the Xoom and Viewsonic tablets are also similar in that respect. Apple just don't like the fact Samsung are actually beating them in terms of how thin and light the units are as it's one of Apples USPs that they've been plugging quite hard. They claimed the iPhone 4 was the thinnest phone in their tv adverts and the MacAir, well, that doesn't need explaining just by the name.

There's more to it then "rectangular with black bezel" and you know it.
Having spent an age in a three store today whilst sorting out my 4s contract (moving from a 3gs, so its a huge upgrade, before some of you call me a fanboy :p) the only one which wasn't instantly recognisable as being "different" from a reasonable distance (8 feet or so) was the 10.1 tab.

-edit-
Other then the samsung logo, obviously

-edit 2-
I should also add, i was mildly annoyed at the fact that three kept pushing the SGS II down my throat, because to quote the worker "we have to do this because we earn more ourselves per device from Android handsets then Apple ones".

Wouldn't call you a fan boy even if you went from an iPhone4 to a 4S, some people like to have the latest and greatest.

I like Apple devices, I think they're great devices although I prefer the choice of not being forced into using iTunes, their browsers and the like, but I do see the benefits of a closed system like theirs.

The only other reason I don't buy Apple devices is because I buy all my handsets SIM free, the Galaxy SII cost me £479 and the iPhone 4S will probably be over £700 and I don't believe the iPhone is better device that warrants such a price difference. I mean, the iPhone is certainly better in some areas, but the Galaxy SII also has positive points over it too.

I honestly don't know why Samsung are being singled out on looks when the Xoom, Optimus and ViewSonic pads also look the same in terms of screen size, black bezel, no buttons and rounded edges.

Big image which is why I've linked it.

I don't blame any shop for doing that, if they successfully manage their "mix" i.e. ratio of more profitable devices versus less then they increase their profit without increasing their top line. I know retailers pretend to be all about the consumer, but it's like the grocery sector. As soon as Tesco move their prices up, other retailers price match.

It's only aimed at Samsung as they're the largest company, so they should have the most resources/best lawyers etc. to defend.

If Apple can win against the company that can defend itself the best then it means that other smaller companies just have to follow whatever the Judge ruled, as if Samsung were unable to win they won't be able to either.

It would be stupid to take a smaller company to court as even if you win the larger company will think they can afford better lawyers etc. meaning that Apple have to spend more money.

Exactly.

If Apple can beat Samsung, everyone else is next. Also, there is quite clearly more to this than looks alone.

Yep, no point taking everyone to court. That costs loads with unknown out come.
Take a few to court of a wide range of patents and see which hold up in court of law. Then go from there.

Be annoyed with Apple then, because it's Apple who force retailers to sell at ****** margins - and hence prevent said retailers giving decent premiums to their employees.

And yes, there is more to the Apple vs Samsung lawsuit than just the shape. Apple simply don't want anything that can compete with the heilPad to reach the market.

If you're talking about contract prices, I think they are actually set so high because of the networks, not because of Apple. I used to think it was due to Apple as well but someone corrected me.

The networks are pretty damn greedy.

That's irrelevant. Obviously there is more to this than the shape in a legal/patent sense because Samsung aren't faring very well against Apple and it isn't purely down to a couple of images. If it is, then well, that's rather hilarious.

Also, I see you like to give things silly names, are you friends with stockhausen?

Apple is essentually playing the bully of the playground

Most of the patents they are advising samsung are infringing is due to the Functionality within the OS (Android) but will not persue Google in terms of patent infringement

Basically person who used to be on the board for apple Eric E. Schmidt is now CEO of google and would make sense why apple has not put up much of a fight against google so they pick on the next best thing (samsung)

Factual or not in my personal opinion its what i beleive i dont really have a problem with apple on a product scale but how they run their buisness practices in general

Although you could argue apples main complaint is similarity's but then again apple wasn't the first ones to manufacturer a touchpad but mainly argue that because they sold X amount they reserve the right to spend large amount of cash to patent the technology and call it as their own.

I'm open for feedback on what i've said if im off the mark or not :)

Might as well rename this to Apple vs the world :p

Anyway, tonight Apple won another battle in court, the US court ruled that Apple has not infringed on 4 of HTC's patents, and will not ban IOS in the US as per HTC's wishes.

My friend who's a manager at t-mobile actual told me apple set the contract prices for the most part and there is very small margin for change, not sure if its like that for all networks but he told me thats how it works at t-mobile and that there not even allowed to give much of a discount for upgrades and such.

He wouldn't know as this is part of the NDA with networks that Apple has.

Trolling, so that's what they're doing. No doubt we'll see them doing it a little bit more. ;):p

Can see why they are though :)

This can't really be that much of a big thing for Samsung, their still selling the Galaxy S2 like crazy and its not really their only venture.

As far as im aware Apple dont have much outside ipods/iphones/ipad/itelevision??

Although im not really up to date on their new products so if somone can correct me please do :)
