Apply direct or via agency?

Both.

My last two roles have come from agencies tho.

The role I'm in now I applied for directly and didn't hear a thing. The job went and past but the person they wanted pulled out so it got readvertised, to where I then applied through an agency and got straight in.

What sort of questions should I be asking recruiters to try to figure out their relationship to the client? There is a job I applied for at a "local education establishment" which I have subsequently found out is a local university, the recruiter has contacted me and I want to figure out whether I should get back in touch or apply via the form on the uni website which I imagine will go through HR.

Have you spoken to them on the phone? Why not call them up and have a conversation, ask them about the role, the team, the hiring manager etc...
