And qualifications don't matter at all as long as you pass the entry tests. You can have a 1st in Law and you'll still be treated the same as a secondary school dropout.

Have they dropped the graduate recruitment program for officers, then? I remember when I graduated from uni they were offering a fast track entry to candidates with a 2:1 or a 1st on a higher pay and with a more direct route into the higher ranks.

Ahh I actually forgot about this, apologies. When I applied I noticed if you've been in Uni in the recent past (or currently at Uni - or some such) you DO NOT have to answer the Competency Based Questionnaire (CBQ) in the application form. Can't remember if it required specific grades but you could be right. Basically it's almost a free ticket to the assessment centre. Still, AFAIK it won't get you in any faster, as I know a grad who took longer to get in than I did.

Best to check the sites I've linked above, lots of people applying post there and can give current information.

Edit: I think one of the main points that effects speed in joining is vetting/security clearance. Can take an extra month or so if you've spent extended time outside the UK apparently.

I've taken the plunge myself an have an application into Merseyside Police. It's a bit of a cliche - but I've wanted to do it since I was young and I've finally got off my backside and done it! (Bear in mind i'd be taking quite a large paycut) I've passed the competency stage, I'm just waiting to hear about the assessment centre dates.

Just got my application pack today

Going to photo copy it a few times to make sure I don't make any mistakes at all!

One question, it has a seperate form asking for any fixed penalty notices while driving, does that include parking tickets?
