April Competition Theme Selection

Yes I was thinking the same the other day. That was my fault, i thought it would be seen better. I apologise.

Personally, i still love the idea.. monthly is a bit aggressive since it only allows pictures to be taken in that period.. Maybe 2 monthly or quarterly?

Could we extend this to April/May?

I can change the title and release it from a sticky.

I think that is the best bet.

Going forwards a bi-monthly or quarterly competition will make it easier for people to take part and add more entries. When this was proposed in the previous discussion there were plenty of supporters but plenty of people that wanted the monthly format. But the facts kind of speak for them selves - people find it very difficult to meet the deadline.

I'm fine with that.. Not that it's "my" comp, I just took some responsibility for getting the thread sorted :p
Didn't get to starting a vote for the May theme given the lack of entries, I wasn't convinced there would be enough entries to actually have a meaningful result at the end..

Perhaps next time a free for all comp (specially for D.P. ;))

Haven't had the time to take my camera out in over 3 weeks now so extending it over may would be ideal really.

It just shows how inactive this forum has become. It's got a bit better but not a lot. You have to want to partake in a competition to make it work. Extending a deadline will perhaps get a couple more entries but it'll still see the majority entered just before the deadline.

I'm happy just entering for fun, but I get the impression that some would like a lot more feedback on their entry. So they're not getting anything for entering at the moment? Apart from the few who did give some feedback.

The trouble is giving good feedback take time and energy. I tried to encourage people to write comments in the March comp but obviously much easier to simply give your vote.

Yeah I know, I started off writing some feedback but didn't get too far (I never really think there's much point in getting feedback from a happy snapper such as myself anyway!).

Yeah that's why I said in the other thread that it doesn't need a longer length but a longer period from when you can have taken the photo. A calendar 12 months or in the calendar year. I understood why people objected to it, fair enough but then we get 3 entries.

Then again as Rojin said I think this shows well enough there isn't the people and demand for one section of the forum.

I think we should have more than one competition type thread running, give more choice and opportunity? Something like:

Bi-monthly themed competition
The incumbent themed competition, themes chosen by community vote. Top 3 winners of the previous round to give feedback on the next rounds entries, everyone encouraged to give feedback.

Rolling thread of "post your best shot"
This is for current shots only, no theme and up to three entries (you can also chop and change entries). This could probably be monthly, although should be staggered to not conflict with the end of other competitions. At the cut off a post is made to demarcate the thread entries and a seperate thread started for voting.

Weekly themed competition
This is entirely for shots taken previously. Time to go back through your library and pick your best.

Also what about some fun threads, something like where you have to post a photo that contains an element from the photo previously posted?

I'm sure we can all come up with some ideas, it's just how well we all then carry them forward :D
