Arc Raiders

Ahh, things are starting to make a lot more sense now.

I just did the 3 games in their other game called The Finals, to get the conditions to unlock the skin in Arc. A huge number of sounds in Arc are ripped straight from this, its the same engine with the same kind of movement but done in first person. Same kind of tropes like ziplines, sliding etc. The game is 3v3v3 and the exact same game emerges as PvP in Arc a lot of the time. It's this constant 3rd teaming over and over, and a huge time to kill on all the weapons. As well as slowly regenerating health. It's all gear towards winning being predominantly situational. Is it 3v1, you're dead. Is it 1v1 but the other person is 10hp, will the first 2 bullets will kill him. The same sadly bland facial setups and models, I swear some of them are direct rips.

It makes me look at Arc completely differently to tell you the truth, Arc is their second game and it's sort of the same thing with a spin on things, but relies on exactly the same kind of mechanics so that everyone kinda just takes turns in winning. So much so there was no matchmaking at all. me and 3 newbs were all in the default skin on the same team, the other teams were obvious long term players with all different skins and weapons and whatnot. We all got trounced. My team were even asking over text chat, is anyone else just here for the Arc skin. Got obliterated for 3 rounds.

Arc feels much more like a variation on a theme now. One thing I will give them is the destruction in The Finals is cool, it reminds me of a BFBC2 back in the day, except large parts of the buidings once destroyed will have the entire building topple over.

From a development aspect I guess it makes sense though to use stuff you've already got, I mean Call of Duty/Battlefield etc, even the FromSoftware Souls/Elden Ring games have spent years and years re-using animations, sounds, movement methods, facial models, entire attack move sets etc. From that side of things not much point in wasting development time re-doing what you've already got in the locker. Never played the Finals but I did hear more than a few people talking about how good its destruction aspects are

it would be good to see some of that make it into ARC Raiders.
but I guess it's a tough one to do as it is meant to be a persistent world and would end up completely flattened after a few hrs. but it is kind of odd having buildings etc which are wrecked but never actually get any worse.

what do you guys spend your seeds on? it seems a bit of a waste spending them on common stuff, so so far i have just been buying the 2 pink things each day. i dont need them but otherwise i would have a bigger pile of seeds than in Mr Fothergill's underpants!.

They are actually really useful, I often run out of things like simple gun parts, usually crafting weapons, wires for explosives, springs, oil etc, there are loads of bits I buy all the time.

Part of the skill of this game is learning what you can buy/craft etc and what you look out for. That vastly depends on what you like using or making.

I make a lot of Wolfpacks and level 4 Venatas.

The elevated droprates of BPs just removes the magic of finding one and the tension of extracting with it tbh.
Yea but........

Keep in mind the character wiping every 60 days or whatever it is, that includes blueprints.

It doesn't quite feel as harsh if the blueprints are more common.

We have quite a few today though, I've found about 5. Maybe a middle ground is needed.

Shhhh

Let them figure it out after I reset please :p

The free to play roots of this game show through every time I need something and actively start looking for it.

Candle holders? Drowning in them.

Need one? *Poof* what candle holders?

If I were being generous I could say it was a mechanic to extend playtime.
But realistically it's a mechanic to force you to spend more time with the game.

I know this exists in other games, but it seems particularly aggressive in arc raiders.

Then again, if I plan ahead I can avoid this, so it's down to me really.

Raiders!

Update 1.7.2 is going live now on all platforms. Please restart your client to download.

Blueprint drop rates have been slightly lowered, but are still higher overall than before the 1.7.0 update.

Hidden Bunker has been re-enabled.

Fixed an issue where spamming the interact input while having a bad connection would make players unable to perform the interact action.

Added missing volumes to make sure inside areas don’t deal cold damage during Cold Snap.

Updated the driver warning for AMD GPUs.

Fixed an issue that caused the ‘Unexpected Initiative’ quest to not spawn quest items making it impossible to complete.

Stay warm. Stay alive.

it would be cool if taking cover from something like a rocketeer actually chews up the building you are in. It would be so much more immersive.

yeah the current drop rate doesn't feel sustainable for a long game. They should be special. not that I'm complaining now I've got mine though. I like the idea of them being more abundant just before an expedition, as a treat for the less terminally online.

125 hours played, enjoyed every minute but I think I am coming to the end, game feels a bit repetitive now.

The rewards to reset are not that great IMO, cant see myself putting enough time in next season to get to lv75 so the extra skill points will be pointless. The reward skin and chicken hat, along with the extra stash space are not a big enough lure for me to reset.

The price I paid against the hours I have played, great value game which was a blast to play.

Yeah the re-use isn't the end of the world, honestly unless you play both games, then it's a bit jarring. It's more the gameplay aspects of it that really hit me, and made me reflect on Arc. There's something about that which bothers me. It's sort of sloppy and chaotic and I think if I'm being cynical it's on purpose so that people can hop in and play without much game time or practice and just get the drop on someone and win. It massively lowers the skill ceiling.

You know what that reminds me of, TF2. Exact same thing with random crits. Sometimes you're pushing a CP and some soldier randomly gets a crit and they frag damn near half the team in a single shot. getting second teamed and 3rd teamed and sometimes 4th teamed on Arc feels the same way. These are impossible scenarios that are encouraged to happen which even the best players can realistically survive, it's just their time to die and someone else's time to win. Not a fan of that at all. Multiplayer games with low skill ceilings tend not to last that long.

Has the wipe thingy happened yet guys?
Ive been holding off buying until then.

Its completely voluntary by the way, you dont have to wipe (you wouldnt be able to even if you wanted to if you were just starting out) so you wont loose anything by starting now.

If anything I would get on now as it seems the blueprint drop rate has increased which might not stay.
