Arc Raiders

I haven't used them yet but you can use the barricade things to block the doorway when you're in.
I've been wondering what the use of the barricades was!

I always seem to have a much better chance of extracting when I start the game with a rubbish load out. The minute I go into a raid with a gun thats green or above a level 2, I'm getting killed.

Next time, I'll take a door blocker!
Though there is a way to glitch through those locked doors. I saw a player demonstrate it. I told him there's no way I'm doing that and left.

I can't stand cheating.

Definitely a lot more people in solos taking a shoot on sight approach to the game, think out of 7-8 games on Buried City I had 5 or so people kill/or try to kill me, one after I was forced to defend myself and had picked up a rather nice upgraded Fero.

I'll just copy pasta my thoughts from FG:

Bought this last night, already level 14. Literally played it all day today.

This is the best game I've played in ages, and is the Destiny replacement I've been wanting for months or even years. I even cancelled my WoW sub.

The maps are absolutely superb, lots of good colours, nice and rich with terrain and fauna, and a very busy atmosphere, unlike some games which just go on for miles and miles and there's no action. This game will have you in the thick of it within seconds of loading in.

The controls are slick, my only gripe is that there's no auto reloading (that I know of) and on a few occasions I've been in the middle of a fight and I press reload, only to open a door / use a zipline / whatever. Not a game breaker by any means, but when you're in the middle of a tense fight and it gets you killed, it can be quite frustrating.

The PvE dudes are excellent. The difficulty is spot on. Not too hard to kill, but they will overwhelm you if you don't stay on top of them. At first some of the huge dudes can be very intimidating, but once you figure them out and play tactically, they're not too hard. That said, you can't just load in and take them on, you need to come prepared. They require specific weapons and will soak up tons of ammo so play with intent. The range of baddies is excellent too. From little rolly polly ******** that set you on fire to massive stomping spiders about 20 stories tall and everything inbetween. A genuine variety and they all suit their appearance in terms of combat. No silly bullet sponges a la the Division.

The looting is good too, if slightly cumbersome. It can take a few seconds to loot stuff which is both great for slowing things down a bit, but it sucks in combat. I've already used a few skill points to speed it up a bit which helps.

The crafting, looting, economy, all very good too. The inventory is rather limited so you have to be quite ruthless which I really like. The game isn't designed around who has the best guns or most loot, I've killed some massive spider things (leapers) with the most basic marksman rifle. I suspect it'll go quicker with the fancy stuff, but I managed it fine. Everything is achievable with the lowest level stuff, but crafting/buying/unlocking the heavier kit just makes it easier and quicker. There's no gatekeeping here, only more efficiency.

The PvP element is one of the best things in this game. There's so much going on that every encounter feels slightly tense, but nothing like DayZ. Lose all your **** and you're back in in seconds with a default class (which is all random kit so you get to try out everything, really nice touch) collecting stuff to make better kit.

Normally with games like this I's suffer tremendously from gear fear, but I've lost some pretty good kit and just shrugged it off, as I can reacquire it quite easily. That said, collecting loads of mats and then using them to build an absolute baller loadout is extremely satisfying. I love going hunting for the bigger stuff like this.

Most of the players are friendly and will help each other out, but as with any game of this nature you always come across the true PVPers. I was busy with a quest earlier and this dude was camping a beacon thingy. I clocked him from a while back as the robots were quite intense around that building and quite a bit of commotion was taking place. I snuck up on him and he stuck a shotgun up my arse.

So I loaded in with a default class, snuck up on him and killed him. Then completed my quest, extracted, loaded in again and killed him again. I did this four times and on the last occasion he turned on his mic and it was some teeny little Spanish kid crying. **** you. Bitch. Left him alone after that.

I think the thing I love the most about this game is the complete lack of direction. Wanna load in with a default class and just go loot **** for loads of xp and materials? Have at it. Wanna build a monster class and go hunting huge robots? That'll do too. Wanna load in with 100 bandages and play a medic? Crack on. You get the idea.

Don't get me wrong, there are a few little niggles but on the whole this is the game I've been waiting a very long time for.

Can't wait to play it again tomorrow. This is exactly what I needed for the dark winter evenings.

Had my first camper on the extraction tonight after 30 hours. Immediately took a hatch key the round after, crisis averted :D

Also, didn't think this game could look any better, but then tried the nvidia RTX HDR (via the in game overlay).

Just had someone throw the Dont shoot message at me, I replied straight away and a few seconds later he was shooting at me

I don't think it's 100% confirmed but I believe the matchmaking uses something like the value or your loadout to matchmake you with equally kitted out players. With a fairly high degree or reliability if I go into a match kitted out with a rare or epic weapon and all the best healing/shields with a mind to kill, most of the other players have similar loadouts. The devs aren't being very forthcoming with how matchmaking is done, but I doubt it will be long before people reverse engineer the files and look through the code to extract exact details of this stuff.

The trials are about to reset, I was up late trying to make sure I was in the top 30 to get a 2x level up. I went from 60th to 11th with an epic run on Dam in a thunderstorm, opening old world husks and got about 11,000 points from that, 20,283 total for the week. Past that the scores are stupid, the best in my leaderboard has 40,000

For 3 stars with the raider beacon drops you need 3 total which seems way over the top in one map and to extract, I managed to get 2x on Buried City but didn't want to push my luck roaming to find a 3rd

If I start adding stuff for the expedition but decide not to go when the window opens, is everything I've committed then wasted or does it just stay there ready for the next window?

I had my first one of these yesterday. Guy tried to take me out next to a lift. He got the drop on me but I fired back and he disappeared around the corner and disappeared. Entered the lift and as it was closing he tried to shoot me by sitting on top of the closing door, but it was too late. :D

I hope you laughed on the proximity chat :D

I've had similar, tried to kill me with a Ferro in the lift while I had a decent shotgun equipped, I killed him before he could reload.

How are you all managing your inventory and whatnot? Occasionally I'll go through all the stuff I wanna upgrade, track the materials, and have a fire sale of everything that's not got a little eye next to it in my inventory. There's just so much stuff to keep track of, and whislt the tooltips are generally quite handy, they're not always the full picture.

For the blues and greens - if I have multiple stacks of it I either sell or recycle, because if I have multiple stacks its likely to be something that is relatively easy to source. If its a tracked item for a craft, bench upgrade etc that I can't do yet because I'm missing items, any item that I do have the required amount I keep an extra stack of it and sell or recycle the rest. Basic materials like metal, plastic etc - 4 stacks of each, sell anything above that. Easy enough to get as much of this as you need from raids anyway.

There are some hilarious goings on happening on the North American servers, a guy who goes in with nothing but bandages, shield recharges and defibs and spends the whole round going around healing and reviving people, I've also heard of a guy who plays the part of a Concierge and hangs around at the elevator extraction points, opening the elevators for people, asking them how their day shopping has been and did they buy anything nice, whilst playing elevator music over the proximity chat as he waves them off, apparently he is becoming well known enough that people even drop him an item as a tip :D

The NA servers seem to be a lot friendlier than the EU ones for these type of interactions. This morning was a murderfest with loads of players saying "don't shoot" only to then attack. Had planned to do some quests etc but it was like playing a battle royale the whole time.
