Arc Raiders

Managed a few extracts tonight on my 2nd stint, all crap like wires and containers and other junk but i had fun. Went in empty handed so I didn't have any fear of dying.
Was running into one of the big buildings on dam map, hearing gun fire. Saw a guy 3rdperson peaking a pillar outside clearly scared to go in. I just legged it past him and jumped by him. Clearly scared him but he followed me in. Ended up like 5 or 6 of us running about in side, some chatting on comms. We agreed to run to nearest elevator but loads of arc appeared and I lost everyone except one guy on the lift as we went down.

The random co-op is good fun.

I must be the worst gamer ever. Did the first bit and returned to base. Then you have to go out again. I wandered over to the nearest place on the map, water treatment plant or something. Then some flying things come and start shooting at me. My guns felt like they were doing nothing & I got killed very quickly despite trying to run away.

Will give it another go tomorrow but maybe team up with some mates instead of trying to go alone. I've got no idea what I'm doing and probably too used to shooting mechanics of BF6.

I have never known a gaming community of such non-confrontational players.

"Thanks Raider"

It's weird, I'm scared, I'm going to bed.

Were you using a free kit / level 1 guns? They are pretty weak vs the flying arc, except for the Ferro (I don't think you get an Anvil in the free kits?). The key with the Wasps and the Hornets is to shoot the thrusters, not the body. The Ferro can two shot a Wasp (white drone with 4 thrusters and a mounted machine gun) by shooting two thrusters - it'll lose stability and crash. The Hornets (bigger than a Wasp, armoured, and shoots an electrical tazer type thing) can also be two shot if you shoot the two rear thrusters off. Most of the time it'll be facing you so that will be difficult, and with a Ferro it'll take at least 4 shots as you'll need to knock the armor off the front thrusters first. Medium and Light ammo penetrates ARC armor less, so Hornets will be much harder to take down with the low end / free guns if its not the Ferro.

When you're starting out and getting a few quests done your best bet is to avoid them as much as you can and pick your engagements when you have quests that require killing them.

Wasps are far more dangerous than the Hornets. The Hornet you can just roll or sidestep out of the way of the tazer.

If you see the big flying thing called a Rocketeer, avoid at all costs early on and get into a building if it does spot you.

You can ping (middle mouse button) ARC to find out what they're called if you're not sure.

Try to avoid the arc in most cases. But if you do need to take any down you need to aim at certain parts depending on which robot it is. Get their weak points and you should be fine but avoid getting into a fight with a swarm of them as you'll likely die; in this case run inside!

Anyone else impressed by the ai of the arc? They are quite scary in how they hunt you and find any opening to try and kill you. If you run into a building it'll try and find you inside but if it can't it'll go round to other entrances or openings to try and find you. I haven't really been able to cheese anything due to dumb ai.

This video touches on the Arc AI, it uses machine learning.

I did that on my first outing, then it just got easier and avoiding ARCs completely. It's other raiders you have to look out for. Some are definitely nice, the majority I've faced are pure evils

Some of my most rewarding moments are when I got swarmed by drones but I managed to defeat them by running around or into cover and picked them off one by one, constantly having to change position as they are really clever at seeking you out. Sometimes another player will even step into help.

What do you mean exactly?
Unlike traditional extraction shooters, they dont have seasonal wipes, instead once you reach lvl 20 you can opt to do a voluntary wipe (by constructing a launch vehicle) where you effectively reset your character, lose all your stashed stuff etc and in exchange for volunteering to "wipe", you get boosts on your "next" character, like faster XP gain, better Rooster loot, larger stash etc, this gives a quick explanation of it

We need waaay more info on what is a buff reward that only applies to the next season and is not long term. And what is an unlock on the account forever. And we also need to know if the account unlocks stack with each season of if they can only be earned once. We also need a preview of any unique cosmetics because to say they are hit and miss in this game is a massive understatement.

I'll be doing it anyway. When progression caps out then half the gameplay loop goes with it. Benefits on top will be nice, if thats just a couple of cosmetics, extra stash space, a couple of extra skill points then thats plenty.

The cosmetics for me are largely moot, although I am still collecting them all, because no outfit is as good as the man with no name outfit from the deluxe edition imo :)

I'm curious to see how this plays out over the coming months. As the niceties disappear and the true face of extraction games rears its ugly face.

Not sure when that will happen. It's an outlier, with its popularity and mechanics. I'm not sure if I'm totally excited about the prestige system. The new map is not far off though.

By the sounds of that video you can carry your expedition progress over to the next season - which sounds great as I'll only be able to play a couple of times a week.
