Arc Raiders

Just bought this as looks like it could be really fun!!

Though I have no real idea what I'm doing, if anyone fancies helping a newbie out - Scuddzilla#1644

Why not ? What does it take away from those who wish to remain in a PvP competitive environment ? You can still try and negotiate / form a truce with other players or attack if you desire. If a PvE mode isn't forthcoming a portion of the playerbase will quit and never return anyway.
If they had a PvE only mode then the vast majority of players who just want a chill game will migrate to that leaving pretty much only people who want to agro others. That would completely destroy the unpredictability and drama that the game generates and turn it into either a generic shooter where every player is your enemy or a boring tree hugging flower picking contest.

A lot of people are requesting this on social media. Of course, there's always some that retort with "but it will destroy PvP !". What they really mean is they won't be able to get their jollies killing lower skilled players. I'm sure it can't be just me, but in any game / genre that I'm good at I get more satisfaction pitting my skills against players of a similar standard or better. I don't understand the mentality of constantly preying on the proverbial "weak".
Sorry but this is just a ridiculous take.

Peeps don't engage in shooting others because they think they're 'weak' or lower level.

I am massively against a separate PvE mode but most of the time I don't attack other players if they haven't seen me; I just let them go.

If they do see me then sometimes I attack and sometimes I don't - there are various reasons why I may or may not and it's usually based on instinct, rightly or wrongly. It's what makes this game so fun - the unpredictability.

It's got nothing to do with preying on 'weaker' players lol. I'm crap at the game but love PvP.

Some humans are just cruel when they have the opportunity, there's no solving that, you can only mitigate it. I'd say the best you can do without ruining the other mechanics is add some risk to killing DBNO players in the escape area. Give players the ability to craft a cheap utility which is an explosive with a dead mans switch so when they die they have the option of triggering it. It goes off when they die or if the player wants to voluntarily set it off. It kills any enemy (kills, not DBNO) within a few meter radius. Balance it by needing the player to craft it, it take up quick use slot. Give it an animation so the person DBNO puts one hand in the air clearly showing a red trigger in their hands. Have it so DBNO players with the dead mans switch equipped can't move.

Now players wanting to be cruel can still be, but they face the same outcome as the people they kill. The person dying gets the satisfaction of revenge but still doesn't keep their stuff. The extraction becomes an exercise in game theory, best outcome is to trust the other person, not get revenge and just both extract with what you have. You can still DBNO players in the lift if all you want is security you wont be killed, as long as you promptly extract before they die.

These games are live services, their health depends on how they respond to the issues the game has, that includes player cruelty.
Or just leave it as it is. What a time to be alive. When killing other players in a game is seen as 'cruel'.

Do you get different loot depending on the map. Up until now I've just played on the blue gate map. Had my first go on the space port map and managed to get two cat baskets and three collars. Also a few other items I hadn't come across before.
Played about 20 hours and have been killed by other raiders roughly five times. Really enjoying playing solo but having the opportunity to join up with other friendlies.

It's 100% this, a lot of players are fish in a barrel to good players and it packs the servers with real life AIs to hunt down and revel in the misery of. This is why I said matchmaking is absolutely key in this game, those less skilled people need to be pit against each other, and the pros vs the pros. PvP in games should be seen as sport-like where there's sportsmanship, the people who win/lose should both want to come back to the fight afterwards, it's why we give ggs. It's why we have men and womens sport, it's why we have weight classes in boxing, it's why there's all sorts of tiers in sports, different leagues etc.

This is why Xals idea of reputation tracking is a good one, if you did that and people knew they couldn't trust people they were aiming at/near, instantly the whole game would change, people would gladly **** on people with negative rep and reciprocate with those with good rep, it's what mediates interactions in real life that games usually lack. It's what keeps things sportsman like.

This would quite literally ruin the game. It's infuriating to even see it suggested honestly. If they do this I'm out and so will a lot of others be.
If they don't do it then a lot of players will be out ....

So are Embark damned if they do, damned if they don't ?

Preying on lower geared of lower skilled players online has been a thing since invention of online gaming. You not heard of smurfing?
Whatboutery isn't a valid argument. Gaming is mainstream now compared to when griefing first began 20+ years ago. People have more choice as to what games they can play and will simply quit and move on.

Why would they be out? They came in knowing it was PvPvE.
There's a lot people on social media & Steam saying they will quit the game, or not buy it, unless a PvE mode is implemented. They think it's too heavily weighted toward the PvP side but would still like to immerse themselves in the game world / lore that Embark have built.

Weird to buy a game knowing it has non optional PvP element if you don't like PvP.

There's no ranked mode, smurfing doesn't work in this context.
The term may not but the idea behind it does - the term is in wider use than just CS now. It’s basically better geared/skilled players farming noobs. It happens, and it’ll continue to happen in online games. My post was countering the assertion that it doesn’t happen.
