Arc Raiders

Soloing has definitely become more 'Mad Max 2' now. Most raiders I come across are silent and shoot on sight, it's next level nerve shredding.

Entered The Blue Gate yesterday (first game of the day) and was killed within a minute of entering, all I could hear was raiders flares going off. Logged out because it wound me up, literally having a rough day and wanted to unwind (yeh I know I know, wrong game).

Came back after 30 mins and a word with myself. Had a few runs in Spaceport, met friendlies and made it out without being jumped, faith restored...nerves not so much :D

Can't stay away from this, not been this addicted to a game since SWG!

I swear as soon as you sort out your gear and go in with a big load out, you're partnered with loads of pvp players.

It's gear score matchmaking from experience.
Naturally this leads to more defensive play.

Yes this is one of the issues. However it's also that higher level free loadout players tend to engage in more PVP as there is nothing to loose but lots to gain. I.e. if you free loadout extraction camp you can kill players with lots of loot and get loads of gear that way and not risk anything.

Maybe it should matchmake based on your total stash value and the player level.

There definitely feels like a change in player base/style over the last couple of weeks, in my games anyway. First couple of weeks were much more friendly/less rats. I know it's part of the game and have no real issue but it definitely detracts from it a bit (from my POV). I love the PvPvE mix but apart from the first couple of weeks I've not had a single encounter in solos or trios of banding together to kill arc or just run around chillin.

It's much more aggro now :D

Just had one of those rare @Tombstone runs. I think I bumped into like 8 or 9 solo's, no shooting, no agro, just friendly dudes going about their business. even had 4 people on the extract point helping each other take out Arc and extracted together. Where has this been over the last week or so!!! :(

On another note... Yeah yeah, another whinge, but seriously! Free loadout, spawn 20min left. No thanks! ESC - Surrender - back to Speranza! I've zero interest in raking over other peoples leftovers. I really wish there was an option to only join fresh rounds. Even if it meant queuing longer.

I'm not sure I like the sound of that. Not everyone wants to sweat it every single round just cause they horde.

Trying to gauge whether I'd like this game or not.

Couple of questions -

How often do you see other players when out scavenging? Is it possible to avoid others?

Is there another way to extract that doesn't involve those elevators? I'm sure I've seen someone mention keys and hatches? Is this a viable option?

I see people very regularly. it isnt possible to avoid in so far as not being lumped in with them.... however you can play stealthy if you want, you dont need to interact with other players to play the game (though i guess you wont be taking down big game).

i have never escaped by one of the hatches..... you can find keys for them or buy them for................ iirc 9000 credits in game though you may have to get to a certain level before they will sell them to you.

so far i have only played solo and have turned off cross play and i would say 75% of players are either friendly or keep themselves to themselves.

there are free loadouts which are fairly useful and if you extract with one you keep all the stuff which you can sell or trade in bits to get better stuff for the next run, so it is possible to progress even without risking high level loot. i dont like pvp at all........ but i do like Arc Raiders

I think another reason the player base is getting more hostile is the higher level players have simply run out of things to do. They've upgraded everything, completed all the missions and got most of the blueprints. What else is there to do except PVP?

I wondered whether it was a level thing. Went through first 10 or so levels and everyone was jolly and teaming up to do everything together. Then the pvp started!

I'm level ~55 now and if I play solo, any map, it's unfriendly 99% of encounters. But if I trio with a couple of mates who are levels ~15 and ~30 we get much more friendly games. Maybe it;s just coincidence but I definitely have more hostile games playing solo, or going in with a 30k loadout.

Yes, you can either buy a Raider Hatch Key from Shani (There is also a quest where you have to repair a hatch and then a key spawns close by the hatch.) Buying a key later costs 9,000 if I remember right, or once you have a Level 2 Utility Station, then you can make one, by using 1 Advanced Electrical Component and 3 Sensors.

Edit. Not done a Night Raid, but from a youtube I saw, it seems that during the nights the hatches are close though, so only elevators. I am sure someone will correct me if this is wrong !

No hatches on any major map conditions (Night raid, Electromagnetic storm or Hidden bunker).
Just did Electromagnetic on Dam for the Open ARC probes trial, only saw one other player as most are indoors dodging the lightning, so it was sort of peaceful and nerve shredding at the same time :D

you'll encounter people almost every round, though it is possible to minimise contact by avoiding high tier loot areas but ultimately, it's not possible to totally avoid other players every round.

there are raider hatches that require a key (single use, once you open a hatch that's the key gone) - but until you can craft them or buy them you'll be relying on finding them in raid so it's almost certain that at least early game you'll have to use the 'public' extraction points.

You'll come across other players quite often ; smaller maps like Buried city & Stella Montis tend to be more prone to PvP and ratting. You can extract via Raider's hatches but you need a key to use them. In the early game you won't be able to easily make / purchase them but by mid game onwards that situation improves. During night raids you can't use Raider hatches btw ... everyone has to use the normal extraction lifts.

My simple question to anyone who isnt sure if they will enjoy the game or not is this ... Will you throw your toys out of the pram if you play for 30mins and then someone kills you and takes all the stuff you just spent 30mins collecting. If the answer to that is Yes, then avoid the game, if the answer is No then play and enjoy :)

Exactly this. I really don't care about keeping weapons, you can always run with a free loadout for a few rounds and replenish.

The first time someone killed me was after I went "don't shoot" at him, he said the same back and then drilled me through the head

And that's why I love this game, the human element adds unpredictability :D
