Arcade High Scores! Current Game: DEFENDER - COME ON IN!

37,890.

This is one of those games that, without a high score challenge like this, I'd pick up, play twice and just put aside. But it's pretty good once you get to grips with it a bit.

I picked up two of those blue capsules on one go, and it gave me a 10k bonus and teleported me to stage 2-4, instead of continuing to 1-4 after the bonus stage, on one go. I died immediately though :D

Do you find this easier starting with 1 ship or going for the double?
I definitely think the double is best bet.

You essentially have exactly the same number of lives, but double firepower is so much better at clearing the screen. For as long as it lasts.

I've been wondering if you can earn a 2nd ship back at any point. I've not gotten very far yet, though.

11,620 i've always been awful at those sort of shooters.
I did have a proper flashback playing it though, i remember playing it at Skegness Butlins probably around 1999 It was weird seeing it in an arcade with the likes of Tekken 3

43,280 a bit more respectable. Started with the two ships. It really does help early on to get the formations. Once I got one ship destroyed I then managed to get back to two after a bit.

Tempted to put dots on my monitor so I can get those perfect line ups, or maybe some masking tape...

Reading up on the game it is possible to have a 3 wide ship although I've never tried it. I don't think it was ever a thing in the original Galaga.

Managed 101,070. Had some good lineups with the two ships at the start, including the bonus stages. Warped to Dimension 2 level 8. Quite a different game to OG Galaga with Asteroids and non Galaga like arrangements.

In the end I crashed into an Asteroid as I wasn't sure if they were good or bad.

I bloody loved that game - Tatsujin-ou/Truxton II, actually my eBay username lol. Spent a fortune back in my arcade collecting days grabbing the PCB and OST. Mind I used to visit shmups forums and chatted to Malc a few times about jamma collecting. Good old days, I really need to sort out an emulator and relive some of the fun.
