For a particular film I like them yes I'm happy to pay the premium.
The improved picture & sound make it worth it imo.
Plus they do hold there price when reselling.

No physical media is worth anything imo.

However, relatively speaking the 4k is not worth much extra over 1080p. I have perfect 20/20 and my LG upscales 1080 so well I struggle to tell the difference between it and native 4k. You can only really gauge it during still images, and how often does that happen in media?

It's enthusiast tax, nothing more.

In terms of just resolution/sharpness, nope, not at all, unless you sit really close to your display..... but even then, 1080P still looks superb.

Now...... is the premium worth it for UHD i.e. the HDR part of it, hell yes

Really? I put more value into physical media than digital media for sure. I'd MUCH rather have a collection of physical discs rather than another full up HDD.

I have been struggling with this also. Almost. The latest Star Wars, for example. Do I buy the 4K or the 3D BR? If the 3D BR didn't exist, it would be a no brainer (and I don't even have a 4K screen yet). BUT, my Projector isn't 4K, but it IS 3D. I just with the 4K release came with the 3D BR, then I'd buy everything in 4K ready for my 4K screen.

Still very Happy with my 48" Sammy H6400. Tech moves forward so quick. And this model TV is only 4 years old and i bet its better then some of the newer Samsung 4k TV's. If you was going to change with Tech then you be changing every year or 2 and that's with a lot of things not just TV's

To be honest 4k doesn't interest me as much as 1080p did originally, but the idea of getting an OLED tv now that's something that definitely interests me

I went into Richer sounds last week where my mate works and they had the new Sony model for 2018. Cant remember what the model was but that was 55" and was £1800. And was playing thor in 4k and got to say it looked great. Was not on Display it was in there demo room. OLED is deffo something that intrests me in the future maybe 2-3 years and see where it is

Cheapest price I've seen an oled tv for was around £1500, and plus with the screen burn on my s8 I don't fully trust the tech yet but in a few years when the prices come down that's when I'd probably make the jump

In my work they had a Sony oled tv as well playing crash bandicoot on a ps4, looked ****** glorious

I'm still happy with the 50" Blaupunkt I got from Tesco online just £250 3 years ago at xmas. Only 1080p but it's honestly been a really good picture, I never even had to adjust the colours or contrast, it was correct at the default settings.

HDR/Dolby Vision is worth it but you don't have to get a 4K disc.

Apple TV 4K is somewhere in picture quality between 1080p and 4K discs and new films are sold for less than £15. I was a very early DVD adopter and had a large Blu-Ray collection because streaming services were obviously crap in comparison for almost all of Blu-Ray's lifetime, but Apple's 4K offerings are definitely good enough for me and don't come with the cost of a 4K disc or the inconvenience of waiting for it to show up in the post because no-one on the high street sells them. You should take a look if you have a decent connection and aren't bothered about having a physical library.

The only ones I can see a real big difference in is a planet Earth II and Blu-Planet they are considerably better in 4K than Blu-ray. Most films I cannot see any real difference in 4K over 1080p tbh...

Absolutely. Picture quality is important right up to the point where you can see everything that the story teller and picture creator wanted you to see. Stories do not get told by micro details only seen in 4k.

I have a suspicion that it's because such nature specialists are heavy on clean, generally real details and low on "blur the **** out of it* effects or camera movements.

In my experience a lot of "4K" content still doesn't have anything like 4K worth of detail - some movies are more like uncompressed 1080p worth of detail hence I don't find the claims of upscaled 1080p looking much different too surprising - I've some footage shot with high end 4K cameras and not heavily compressed though where you can really see the difference on a good setup.

Only time I've ever seen a decent 4k film is either a documentary or a cgi film, I've seen mad max and a few other live action films and they just look the same as 1080p no difference
