Are designer labels desirable due to quality or the expense?

It's certainly not quality.
It's absolutely the name/loom/epeen/top earner status.

Not saying its bad quality. But it isn't for quality

I always find the rolex thing amusing. If you have a rolex. People assume it's fake. So if you're worried about being judged (because you bought a rolex) you probably are being judged for buying a fake rolex.

So that people know I'm a top revenue earner just from looking at my belt

Funny thing is that the richest people I know are usually in the most bland clothing. I remember the look on peoples faces when one of them, who could almost pass as homeless, jumped into and drove off in his Ferrari as we left Kensington.

I often get dragged into such ‘designer’ places with my wife and they are some of the cringiest places with the cringiest people you’ve met. Each to their own I guess. I never wear the stuff, so they always look at me funny :D - until you start talking and realise you have money to spend.

Agree. I'm surrounded by quite wealthy people where I live. I'm probably the poorest in my road by a long way. The guy opposite dresses completely conservatively and drives a battered old BMW estate. What most people don't realise is he has a collection of very rare, and very expensive, cars parked in his back garden and garage, including a adorable E Type.

My uncle retired when he was in his 40's, and dresses like a homeless, cheap £2 slippers, shorts and no Brand t-shirts. He has a 2 bedroom flat in Hong Kong (which can't be cheap!).

Both really. I wear middle of the road stuff (Timberland, M&S, tm lewin, gant) mostly as that's where you get best bang for your buck (in my opinion).
Anything cheaper I found would not last as long or doesn't feel as nice.
Anything more expensive would not last much longer.

I of course have bkth cheaper and more expensive items but they are very few for the above reason.

TM Lewin have gone bust; M&S and Gant make sure you get it from the Outlets as it is no different. Crew Clothing, too.

I know it is a shame they've shut their stores. They still operate online though and I know my size so that's fine for me.

We do go to outlets a couple times a year which is where I get most of my 'expensive' clothes.

I only really spend more on clothes where having a perfect fit is really important. Suits, special event shirts and cycling kit. Every day clothes a lower cost fit is good enough. I prefer cheap plain t-shirts and having a slightly higher turn over of them.
