Are Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3 similar?

I like shooters.

I find RPGs the worse genre in the world.

However, I enjoyed Fallout 4.

I've heard many fans of the Fallout series up until Fallout 4 disliked that Fallout 4 'turned into a shooter'. Maybe this is why I liked it.

If I enjoyed Fallout 4 for its shooter elements, will I enjoy The Witcher 3? (I'm aware there are no guns) Or Is it more of an RPG than Fallout 4 is?

I always preferred shooting too, but you soon get used to sword fighting and casting spells. If you enjoyed Fallout 4 (which isn't really that good at all compared to other Bethesda games), then you'll love Witcher 3 which is, quite frankly, the best game ever made. It is absolutely superb. Get the expansions too.

Depends on how you played Fallout too though. First person or third? Witcher is third person only.

Witcher 3 is very much an RPG but IMO it's RPG elements are not mechanically overly complex, so less experienced RPG players should be able to pick up and play no problem. I personally found the gameplay, story, visuals and overall presentation to be of the highest standard (I don't play many RPGs) and became truly immersed in the World/story. The game also has 2 fairly lengthy DLCs, so if you buy the GOTY edition you'll be getting a lot of gameplay for the money.

I've played Fall Out 3, Las Vegas, and Fall Out 4. And Witcher 3.

By far, Witcher 3 is the better game. Played a bit of Witcher 2 but can't seem to get to it, seems rock hard as well.

Fall out is pretty much skyrim/oblivion, with guns. Fall out 4 is pretty medicore and it doesn't have the dark elements like in previous fall out games.

Oh, sword fighting and magic spells?

That's me out, then.

I'll go back to PUBG.

Fallout*

As stated in the posts above. They are similar in the RPG sense, but completely different gameplay wise. You like shooters, so unless you want to shoot magic spells and mostly sword fighting, the witcher is probably not your cup of tea. I would still recommend you to give it a shot (see what I did there? Ill see myself out.), its truely an amazing game.

No. I've never played any of the series and I didn't look at any screenshots before creating this topic.

"I don't really like shooters, would battlefield be a bad idea?"

With slightly less sarcasm, CDPR's next big game might suit you. Cyberpunk so... it's sci-fi, not fantasy.

Well that is pretty much the most ridiculous thing I've seen today, kudos. I'd love to know what kind of brain leads to your first port of call being a post on a forum asking if two games are the same rather than just looking up a trailer on youtube...

Fallout 4 is a disgrace to the fallout series. Boring repetitive game play with meaningless dialogue.

Witcher 3 is a credit to gaming as a whole. It's just bloody great.

Just googling "Witcher" shows swords.

Sorry for the hijack, but is it worth playing the first two games in the series before playing Witcher 3?

Witcher 3 may be the better RPG and story but the game play in Fallout 4 is way better. Witcher 3 combat is repetitive and boring fairly quickly. Not worth playing the first two games as they have even worse combat.

I played them both before starting W3, then I played them again before finishing W3. I found them ok, graphic a bit outdated of course but otherwise I liked them both. But as chroniclard said, some find the combat bad and some can't get into them at all. They are not necessary to play before W3 so in the end up to you.

W1 combat is terrible, W2 is better but the linear maps are pretty dull.

I never played witcher 1/2 before starting W3, it was fine, although I suppose reading up on characters, stories etc would at least help a bit.

I doubt anyone has enough free time to bother. I played Witcher 3 and sank about 40 hours into it and probably didn't even get half way. Good game, but couldn't imagine dragging myself through a 10 year old version of it. I might get round to finishing W3 someday, doubt it though.

Also, hilarious thread. " Swords and Magic? I'm out."

Witcher 1 is a classic. Probably the best graphics you will see on NWN1 engine. Combat is/was tethered to oldskool rpg way of thinking ie CDPR tried to do 3 different kinds of combat to appease everyone. Story still brilliant.

Witcher 2 is like a linear and more amateur version of W3. Combat quite clunky. But still a great game.

Witcher 3 is probably my game of the decade...finally a game which has taken the throne from Deus Ex.

All 3 leagues ahead of the competition.

It wouldn't really matter how good the combat is in Fallout 4, I got bored fairly quickly. Whereas the story, characters and the whole world of Witcher 3 were enough to keep me thoroughly entertained to the very end. Though I enjoyed the combat as well, I guess it depends whats important, but I need a good story and stuff in a game like this. Fallout 4 may not have seemed so bad to me if I hadn't just played Witcher 3 before it.
