Are Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3 similar?

I'm one of those who just couldnt get on with W1 and W2. I own all three games , I have about 5 hours played on W1, 2 hours played on W2 and about 70 hours played on W3. My advice would be to skip 1 and 2 and go straight to 3 and be blown away.

It wouldn't really matter how good the combat is in Fallout 4, I got bored fairly quickly. Whereas the story, characters and the whole world of Witcher 3 were enough to keep me thoroughly entertained to the very end. Though I enjoyed the combat as well, I guess it depends whats important, but I need a good story and stuff in a game like this. Fallout 4 may not have seemed so bad to me if I hadn't just played Witcher 3 before it.

Ideally both decent story and game play would be good, didn't finish witcher 3 as the story drags on and on and 90% of the other content quickly becomes pointless, combat isnt great. Both great games while they last though totally different.:)

Oh, sword fighting and magic spells?

That's me out, then.

What the plough??

Currently playing through Witcher 2 after having it sit in my steam list for about 4 years, having to play it with a controller due to the multitude of dodge/roll/spell commands you have to use, so that is probably another reason why you wouldn't like it if you are used to KB+M shooters.

I'm very rarely flabbergasted by the things I see posted in forums these days (the lowest common denominator is extremely low :() but I am genuinely shocked by the OPs inability and utter laziness to do some basic personal research before making an utter tool of themselves on a public forum

anti-cudos OP, anti-cudos...............................

They both have the RPG tag but they are miles apart, Whilst I enjoyed F4 it doesn't come anywhere close to the enjoyment I had with TW3.

I couldn't get into TW3 because the mouse and keyboard controls are not very accurate, the combat is basically just a hit and roll system and there are far too many cut scenes lasting far too long for me personally. It's a beautiful game though, the story is deep and multi leveled and the world environment is probably the best that has ever been designed. It's a true RPG in every sense of the word that was utterly ruined for me personally by the disconnect I felt when controlling and fighting with the player and the sheer volume sat watching stuff rather than playing a game, I'm by far in the minority though.

I gave up after about 40 hours.

FO4 is much simpler with an ok story and is an open world FPS with a few RPG elements but is not an RPG. However I much preferred the controls and combat when compared to TW3, though the story is nowhere near as deep or long and the world while detailed is nowhere to the level of TW3. It's not as pretty either and has more performance issues than TW3.

I prefer guns and grenades over swords and spells anyday of the week anyway and 1st person over 3rd person which probably has a lot to do with why I preferred FO4 much more.

Tha'ts something that can bore me in a lot of games, but TW3 is one of the few exceptions for me, really enjoyed all the cut scenes and dialogue. But yeah its a personal preference thing.

I'll go back to PUBG.

Fallout*
I didn't use any 'spells' really throughout my 90 hours of the game so I'm not sure what you are imagining but if it helps, think of it a bit more like Bioshock plasmids where you can shoot fireballs or knock people backwards. It's true the combat uses a sword but it's quite good fun and generally follows a hit, hit, dodge pattern. There are also crossbows that an be used as an alternative to melee combat. It's possible to ignore most of the RPG elements of the game in terms of the crafting and all that stuff in the menus, you just to replace your armour and weapons with upgraded versions as you go along. It's worth giving it a go because the story and characters are so detailed and well done. You also get to bed just about every main pretty female character in the game. And did I mention you can also solicit the services of Strumpets at the local brothels? :D

Fallout 4 is an ok open world shooter with dumb story and lazy quests.

Witcher 3 is a modern classic, one of the best RPGs ever made and my personal greatest game of all time.

They are not very similar at all.

Imagine someone took
If I enjoyed Fallout 4 for its shooter elements, will I enjoy The Witcher 3? (I'm aware there are no guns) Or Is it more of an RPG than Fallout 4 is?

Imagine someone took Fallout IV, removed everything that made it such an incredibly good game (including the option to customise your character, choose your own gender, and switch between first & third person), changed the setting to some kind of weird, witchy medieval magical era where everyone is Polish, implemented one of the worst game UIs ever created, gave you a control system that looks like someone forgot to finish it, dumbed down the gameplay to console peasant levels, screwed up the camera, introduced some kind of weird lock-on system that rarely works, and then kicked you hard in the balls.

That's The Witcher III.

Trying too hard to troll there :p

I have to say TW3 is probably my favourite game of all time. Just started a new play through and really looking forward to playing through the expansions.

Fallout 4 was ok but I got bored fairly quickly. I might give it another go as there are plenty of interesting mods available by the looks of it.
