Are ghosts real?

I think Eddie Izzard lready did a thing about this...why are they not billions of billions of them, all those people that have died since humanity began? why is always people from the middle ages?

and why do people who say they are possessed by a spirit or have lived life as somebody else always end up it being cleopatra or napolean or somebody else historically famous, how come its never dave the victorian plumber from barnsley

why not ghost cows or ghost cats?

its all BS for gullible people who are open to suggestion so they think they see what they want to see, not whats actually there

I don't believe in 'ghosts'. My girlfriend does.

I just think that as producers of electromagnetic forces due to being charged objects ourselves, there is already a multitude of invisible interaction with fundamental forces that we may or may not perceive as individuals.

I don't believe in souls, afterlife* and things like that but I do know that there's things we have yet to discover about our selves.

*unless we're talking about the transfer of one form of energy to another ala decomposition :p

If you want to believe in them, you'll see them. If you can convince yourself enough that they exist the mind will facilitate that mindset.

However, I'm a "see it to believe it" sort of chap. :)

The proof has to be provided by people that claim that they exist and that they have seen them. Its not up to sceptics to prove that they dont exist.

Its the same with any paranormal activity, the fact that there has never once been any recorded proof that ghosts, poltergiests, aliens or any other such things exist will never stop people believing. Its the same with religious nuts, my own sister is a creationist who believes dinosaurs were put by god to test our faith, even though scientific proof shows how old the earth is, according to her its incorrect. Of course she's completely nuts but people will believe what they want to believe no matter what.

It's strange but has anyone else noticed that it seems to be mostly women that hold these beliefs? Perhaps a generalisation but it's certainly true in my experience.

I think physics says it best, if ghosts exist they are the one thing that doesnt need any energy source to power them.

Some people believe that they do [use heat as a power source. That's why ghost hunters carry all sorts of thermometers and heat cameras around - to hunt for things like cold spots.

I know a few people who have witnessed 'figures' etc, myself included, who cannot explain what they saw.

More please!

People involved with the making of Most Haunted have admitted on a few occasions that is faked. The first ever halloween showing of most haunted was revealed to have been a hoax for good entertainment.

I can't find the article on it, but there are plenty of articles of other instances.

As for "do I believe in ghosts?" quite simply, no. I put the belief of ghosts down to either imagination/mind playing tricks or wanting to believe in an afterlife.

koolpc, they didn't see a gohstly figure, they just saw me with my trenchcoat on at night. Just clearing that up.

I don't know if ghosts are real or not, no one does, but I do believe that the majority of sightings etc are either fake, imagination, mental problems or something perfectly normal misunderstood.

That doesn't mean they don't exist, it just means as far as I see there is no conclusive evidence that they do.

I can't say I'm a believer myself, because I don't like things I can't explain! 'scuse the long post!

However I lived in a house a few years ago, which I rented as I was working in the area and it was too far for a commute. It was entirely unfurnished apart from the top floor attic room which was used for the owner of the houses mother. I never asked if she was dead or not, wasn't interested.

Anyway so I moved into this house and put all my stuff in, it was strage just having this one room set out like a bedroom with other peoples stuff in "my" house but it was in the contract and I didn't need the room so I just stayed out. However there was a really good view from up there so when people came round I used to take them up there to show them the view.

In the room was a dresser, a bed, a rocking chair and an old radio on the dresser and that was it.

Whenever you'd go into the room there would be a scratchhhhhhh...CLICK sound, the rocking chair would then SEEM to stop rocking and then the bed would creak as if someone had sat on it.

I just assumed it was the door opening, disturbing the air, creaking on the floor etc.

My friend, however didn't believe it and said the room was haunted, I told him it was just air moving and he wanted to try leaving the room door open and then go up again later. He stopped on the stairs up to the room and surely enough scratchhhhhhh.....CLICK, creak. Exactly the noises you'd normally hear when opening the door.

He walked over to the radio and turned the power/volume knob. It wasn't plugged in so didn't work but the sound it made when turning it down and then off was scratchhhhhhhh.....CLICK

I ignored it but he wouldn't come back anymore.

Another few strange things happened there, my uncle helped me move in and brought some extra stuff round a few months in, unbeknown to me, he put a box up in the attic room, on his way out of the room all the lights in the house came on (it was daytime) and then the bulbs simultaneously exploded and shattered. We replaced them and the electric wouldn't work at all. We called the landlord and she said she'd send someone round.

In the meantime I asked where he'd put the stuff he brought in and he told me it was upstairs, I went up and got it out that room to put it where it belonged etc and as I took the box out of the room all the lights came back on, thought nothing of it and they'd just fixed themselves.

Later on that night I'd folded all the boxes down and was going to take them to the tip the next day, took them up to the attic room to store them and as I left them in the room all the bulbs in the house went pop again.

Everyone else says the room was haunted, I don't like that explanation so I'm just saying it was coincidence, but my friends still talk about that house whenever ghost stories are mentioned!

Only 'ghost like' thing I have ever experienced was someone running down the hallway upstairs when it was only me and my cousin in the house (and it's a deserted place)

It was either someone who broke in which is very unlikely as the doors and windows were all locked and closed or ghosts that I don't believe in :p Whichever it was, it's still pretty creepy.
