Are Jeans becoming unfashionable?

Nonsense. I picked up a great pair of jeans in Sport Direct of all places about a year back for £25. They are super comfortable and have not got any evident wear on them so far. I wish I had picked up all the pairs in my size in hindsight, seeing as I detest clothes shopping.

Weird clothes snobbery is a thing, especially from people trying to justify the amount they spend over identical looking alternatives at a fraction of the price.

The fact is a lot of the items we buy come from the same damn factories. Sure, there's cheap to the point of something being crap, but I'm an active and pretty beefy guy. I've had more expensive jeans fail on me more than off brand stuff. Make a point of inspecting what you purchase, you can generally tell from the stitching alone and that's super obvious with jeans.

I was always a jeans Man back in the day but switched to walking trousers in later life and combats for casual.
Reasons, waterproof/resistant, lighter more movement in the case of walking trousers.
Pocket space with combats, especially the thigh pockets hate cramming phone ect in there, cash cards bending ect
Still like them though and this thread may make me dig them out of the wardrobe

Always worn jeans / jorts, with very brief forays in to cords / chinos.

I've decided to give chinos another go, so pulled a pair out of the back of my wardrobe that I haven't worn in years. I've lost half a stone recently, and they're back to fitting me again.

I think society has become more superficial over time. Status has always been a thing, i'm unsure why, maybe it's just part of natural psychology for humans to try to be the best, or maybe social media enriches it. Status (good finance) if born with it, or comes naturally with a chosen job is the easiest (laziest) way to achieve the false believe that one is better than another.

Point being, society has probably chosen jeans as the next thing to be subjected to being associated with a lesser person as it subconsciously searches for new gains up the social ladder. It's akin to young uns knowing what's cool and what isn't. So adults blissfully unaware jeans are uncool, just like the tracksuit bottom being associations, and teens still wear trackies.

Yep, jeans wearers are now less cool than trackie wearers.

Problems with going back to chinos:
You have to iron them, or they look really wrinkly. I never iron my jeans.
The lighter colour shows up things like getting wet in the rain, splashing water on them in bathrooms washing hands (yeah yeah :p ) and if you splash tea / coffee / dirt / whatever.

I do however like how much more flexible and comfy they feel. They fit my waist better than the bulkiness of jeans, and flex more with me when I sit down. I've got the 'slim fit' variety.

Tempted to get a pair of cargos seeing as they're seemingly 'back in', see how I get on with them.

OP made me smile.

When I was young I used to wear chinos. When I got older, 30s, I switched to jeans.

I've noticed when it comes to jeans in the UK we don't, or didn't, seem to have the same cuts or styles as they did when I visited the US. Some people here didn't look right in jeans, too baggy, thin, or short etc. I think they were just wearing the wrong style.
